I think you'd have to include Clayton Kershaw's name into that offer to even warrant a call back from the Marlins.
Kershaw/Kemp/Laroche for Cabrera/Willis almost makes sense.
As good as those prospects are you just never can tell who will and who won't pan out. I'm not saying I would do the trade but I think it would be a much fairer offer than just Kemp/Laroche for Cabrera/Willis.
Why do we even want Willis? He sucks.
I'll take Willis as a fifth starter over Loaiza any day of the week.
Foxsports.com is reporting Johan Santana could possibly be LA bound. All it would take to get him, according to this rumor, is Kershaw and Kemp.
I never look at fox sports for baseball rumors. After all, Hudson was in Dodger blue according to them.
As for Cabrera from the Marlins, my Dodger contact said they approached the Marlins on a couple occasions over the past year about Miggy. When they inquired last offseason, apparently the Marlins asked for Kemp, Billingsley, and Martin. When they asked during the season in July, Florida asked for LaRoche, Kemp, and Kershaw. Obviously no deal, though the second one doesn't seem too insane. This is arguably one of the 5 best hitters in baseball we're talking about in Cabrera.
There is worry about Cabrera's fitness level, some scouts feel he's gonna be DH material in 5 years.
BA chat wrap
A lot of Dodger content this week
Ron (Orlando,Fl): Are the Rays David Price and Jake McGee 2 of the 3 best LHP prospects in the minors along with Clayton Kershaw?
SportsNation Jim Callis: Yes, they are. I'd rate them Kershaw, McGee, Price.Kyle (Minneapolis): What do you think of the report of the Dodgers offering up Kershaw and Kemp for Johan in the offseason? Enough to get him?
SportsNation Jim Callis: Didn't see that report. If I had to trade Santana, that would be a good starting point. And as crazy as this sounds, the Dodgers might regret that trade. If Kershaw and Kemp reach their potential, they'll be bargains while they're cost-controlled.Ben (Minneapolis): Hi Jim - Santana to the Dodgers for Kemp, Loney, Kershaw, and LaRoche. Would either team do it, and who would get the best value?
SportsNation Jim Callis: If I'm the Twins, I do that in a second. That's four cornerstone young players. I can't believe the Dodgers would give up that much, even for Santana. Economically, that makes no sense.Ryan (Chicago): What is the ceiling on Chin-Lung Hu? Long term, is he an everyday SS or reserve middle infielder?
SportsNation Jim Callis: Everyday SS.Jeff (LA): Quentin or Kemp?
SportsNation Jim Callis: Kemp.Jeff (LA): Meloan or Broxton?
SportsNation Jim Callis: Broxton.Brent (The O.C.): Jim- Sign A-Rod (trade LaRoche) if he becomes a free agent or trade away Kemp and Kershaw for one year of Santana? McBankrupt would never do it but I'm interested in your opinion.
SportsNation Jim Callis: Sign A-Rod. Honestly, though, whoever trades for Santana won't give up a lot without being able to lock him up long-term first.dodgerdan (LA): how good is Kershaw?
SportsNation Jim Callis: Best LHP in the minors.Jeff (CA): Blake DeWitt or Josh Bell?
SportsNation Jim Callis: Bell.
