Since I live in Seattle now I am just getting to the "trade Matt Kemp" idea. What a freaking joke! If they trade Kemp I am done with this team. It would be up there with trading Piazza.

Another brutal game. You think we'd win one just by chance eventually.
I personally appreciate how we've absolutely rolled over for the Rockies. There's nothing that I want more right now than for the Padres to be knocked out of the Playoffs.
Being on the east coast and removed from any local rivalries out there, I just want to see us finish with some pride and see the young guys do well. I couldn't care less about the Padres, Rockies or anyone else. I'll be rooting for the Cubs in the playoffs and anyone who is playing the Yankees.
I've been getting the games in HD all week and getting Vin, so I'm just enjoying the last week of it. I have two small kids, by the time they get to bed and I have my own time to chill out it's usually about 10 and the Dodgers are coming on. I miss them when they're not playing.
Another chat wrap
A lot of Dodger related stuff again.
Quote:
Jesse (Los Angeles, CA): Short of an A-Rod signing, there's not much on the free agent market or trade front to help the Dodgers in 2008, correct?
SportsNation Keith Law: If they shop Kemp and Kershaw, they'll be able to land a pretty big fish. But I can't imagine that they'd do so.
Quote:
Josh (Los Angeles, CA): With the progress Billingsley made this year after starting in a relief role, it seems like Earl Weaver had it right. Is this heading back to being the prevailing method for breaking in young starters?
SportsNation Keith Law: I seriously wish that that was the case, but I don't see it. I don't know of a single team that has that as part of its development philosophy. Starting pitching prospects nearly always get to the majors because someone got hurt or stank and there was an opening in the rotation.
Quote:
Tim (Still here): Chin Lung Hu.. Utlity guy, everyday player, or potential superstar?
SportsNation Keith Law: He's a borderline everyday guy. Not sold on the bat, but he plays great defense and has outstanding feel for the game.
Quote:
Craig (PA): How good are Kershaw and Kemp? Even if Dodgers could sign him long term, wouldnt the rumored deal of Santana for Kemp and Kershaw still be a bad deal for LA?
SportsNation Keith Law: I think that rumor is nonsense. Why would Minnesota deal Santana now rather than wait until December and create a bidding war? Why would LA give up those two premium talents for just one year of Santana?
Quote:
dan-E (Miami Beach): Good stuff Keith. Couple of things: Do you think James Loney will develop into a Justin Morneou or is he more a Mark Grace type? And what's the url for your other blog? Thanks.
SportsNation Keith Law: I think he's in between those two, but I have to qualify that by saying that he's already showing more HR power than I expected at this stage

dan-E (Miami Beach): Primanti Bros. in PIttsburgh is awesome. Best sandwiches in the state. Even though trading Kemp would be a huge mistake (even if we get Santana), you think our veteran-infatuated management will make that sort of trade anyway?
SportsNation Keith Law: Meh. French fries on the sandwich - so what? I think there's a major disconnect in that front office between a GM who wants to deal all the kids for veterans - would it surprise you if Colletti himself turned out to be the one feeding the pro-Kent, anti-rookie articles we've seen out there? - and the scouting/PD people who are arguing that there's a powerful young core of players sitting right there.
Quote:
Jay , Los Angeles,CA.: Whats your take on Dodgers youngster Delwyn Young?Future everyday player?Role player?
SportsNation Keith Law: No position. Maybe an extra guy, but probably a 4A guy who never sticks because he can't play the field.
Quote:
Paddy (St. Louis, MO): Keith With all the talk about Kemp, what's your professional scouting opinion? Would you keep him? And aren't rookie mistakes and griping veterans part of the game?
SportsNation Keith Law: I think he's also a potential superstar, I'd keep him unless I was getting more than one year of an established superstar, and I'd take the mistake-prone rookie over the griping clubhouse-cancer veteran eight days a week.
Always nice to beat the Giants.
So, since this season's basically done... what's the roster look like for next season?
Hmmm, kind of a tough question because of the wild baseball off-season. Because I like you Wolvie, I'll give it a shot. Let's assume Colletti doesn't make any stupid trades.
Catchers
Russel Martin
Mike Lieberthal(he's a FA but obviously we'll have a backup Catcher on the roster)
Infielders
James Loney
Jeff Kent
Rafael Furcal
Andy LaRoche
Nomar Garciaparra
Tony Abreu(backs up 3B, 2B, and possibly SS)
Outfielders
Matt Kemp
Juan Pierre :(
Andre Ethier
Starting Pitchers
Jason Schmidt(I'm assuming he'll be ready)
Brad Penny
Derrick Lowe
Chad Billingsley
Esteban Loiza(we're kind of locked into him)
Relief Pitchers
Takashi Saito(FA but wants to be back)
Jonathan Broxton
Scott Procter
Jonathan Meloan(nothing left to prove in the minors)
Joe Beimel
DJ Houlton(long man)
Well that's 22 guys out of 25. Obviously the 4th OF would make 23, and a we'd need a pinch hitter off the bench, perhaps Sweeney. That would make 24. 25th man would probably be another pitcher. Wouldn't mind bringing back Tsao.
Dammit I'd rather have Wolf than Loaiza, injury-risks considered.
Heh, no stupid trades, but stupid signings are almost a given! :)
Thanks for the effort. Sounds about right. Seems like Sweeney deserves to be kept if he's interested. Wolf's gone thanks to Loaiza's contract, making the rotation set... except that Colletti loves to have extra rotation-type guys in the mix, so I wouldn't be shocked by another reclamation project, especially since Schmidt's such a question mark. Repko might be the 4th OF (how many years in a row have we said that?) coming back from injury, and Delwyn Young might figure in if he's not sent somewhere but he's not a great utility OF.
The team's going to look strikingly similar on paper.
