I thought he was perfect in the 8 spot. He did just enough to clear the pitcher's spot a lot of the time and held his own there, that's when he was improving as a hitter. Once they traded Roberts and batted Izzy leadoff, I think that was too much for him. He swung at too many bad pitches to be a leadoff hitter. Of course being a Gold Glove SS is why he was there, that's why I thought batting 8 was the right place for him.
does everyone have their avatars set up now? lol
Actually the vast majority of Izturis's at-bats (61%) in his career year of 2004 were in the leadoff spot. When Roberts was in the lineup that year, Izturis batted 2nd. Remember in the four months Roberts was a Dodger in 2004, he only played 68 games due to platooning and injuries. Izturis was the leadoff hitter for the other half of that period as well as the entire stretch run.Originally Posted by Italian Seafood
As an 8-spot hitter for the Dodgers, Izturis was actually pretty horrible. He spent most of 2003 in the 8-spot for a terrible .256/.287/.309 performance. You'd at least expect an 8-spot hitter to draw walks and get on base (like Betemit) considering he bats in front of the pitcher, but Izturis didn't even do that.
And like I said, in Izturis's 2004 year he was very good and his glove, of course, was outstanding. However, every other year he has been pretty much terrible. Feel free to create whatever bogus storyline you want for that, but overall he just isn't and wasn't a very good hitter--period.
There you go.Originally Posted by kingofdodgers

I went to school in SF and I KNOW those ****ers LOVE to spoil our party.
