Some BA stuff
Gray (Chicago): No James McDonald I see in the Top 100. What is it about McDonald that kept him off the list, because it obviously could not be his 2007 numbers. Do you guys need to see it again in 2008? ETA? Ceiling?
SportsNation John Manuel: Gray, sometimes I wonder if we are under-rating McDonald a bit. He sounds interesting. He had quite a stretch at Double-A, but it's a pretty small sample size too. He's missed a lot of bats and that gets people excited, but it also sounds like he's got good stuff, not great stuff, and some deception mixed in. I kind of want to see him do it out of A-ball, and maybe I should have given more weight to his 50 innings at Double-A.Jay, Melville: Jim, When will #7 Kershaw and #8 Morales be up with the big club in 2008? As a starter or reliever? Thanks
SportsNation John Manuel: Jay, Morales already has been up obviously; the Rockies signed some vets like Wells & Towers in the offseason so maybe he gets some minor league time to start the year but I would imagine he's good enough to pitch his way into the rotation sooner than later. Some scouts thought he might wind up in the bullpen as an Alan Embree type but he was better than expected in the big leagues last year, under pressure. Kershaw is better, more of a lock to remain a starter, could jump all the way to the majors in '08 but I really doubt it, look for him in '09, maybe midway through the year.bhsportsguy, los angeles: Hey Jim: I see that two of the on the brink of the top 100 list are Hiroki Kuroda and Chris Withrow. What can we expect from each of them this year?
SportsNation John Manuel: those are apples & oranges guys . . . had a scout email me today that we "missed the boat" by not ranking Kuroda; personally I was worried about his size, lack of strikeouts and durability (he had elbow issues in '06 and finished modestly last year). Withrow is a pick to click for the '09 top 100, I could see him leaping up the list if he has a good first season, big-time arm, just a little raw for the top 100 at this point for me.
Matt Kemp heads for 3rd base as the left fielder throws the ball to 1st base to double him up.

Listening to ESPN710 this morning and they scared the crap out of me by throwing a hook out there that Billz was injured.
They came back from commercial and I guess he's got a slight groin irritation keeping him from his scheduled start today. He'll pitch a sim game in a couple days. Torre said it's nothing to worry about.
Larry Bowa won't wear the helmet as third base coach.
The guy has some good points about the Umps and broken bats, but all-in-all, I think he's being a whiny bitch about this. Cumbersome? What? So cumbersome that a hitter can run out a ****ing triple while wearing one that's beefier than the one you're being told to wear? Give me a break, Larry. You stand in a box all ****ing game. If you're distracted for half a second at just the wrong time, you're shaking hands with Coolbaugh. Sure there's all kinds of other things that can happen to the other people on the field, but is wearing a helmet as a base coach all that worth being a whiny bitch about?
Ah hell. I don't give a **** what he does, really. I just think it's kind of silly that he's in the press bitching about something so relatively trivial.

Matt Kemp batting 8th today.
Hmmm...
I kinda hope that's not the way it ends up in the regular season. I can't imagine he'd get many at-bats with men on base in the early innings of the game during the regular season.
The ideal for me?
