I now know what JBruin feels like. Because I use stats to in my arguments and not "gut feeling" I don't know what I'm talking about and am labeled "a fantasy league player".

So spring training peformance means everything when veteran pitchers are trying new pitchers, just getting into shape, and really generally don't care. But we're supposed to ignore minor league stats. Yea, that makes sense.

I'd like you to point out where I said Abreu has been playing better than DeWitt this spring. Seriously, find where in my posts I make this claim. My point is Abreu is the better player. Why? because he's proven himself at the AA level and AAA level. Meanwhile Blake DeWitt has struggled at the AA level. Other than 39 springs ABs, what makes you think DeWitt is major league ready? Gut feel? Grit? Heart?

This makes no sense whatsoever. So we ignore the fact that DeWitt has just been average in AA and give him a spot on the 25 man roster? Again, if DeWitt had put up good numbers in AA last year I don't think I'd be seeing "minor league stats? Who Cares" in your posts.

Whoever has the most David Eckstein posters on their dorm wall at Vero wins the starting 3B spot.

ASU played baseball in HS. I worked in baseball for several years at both the college and professional level and have a couple college players in my immediate family. We're not just stat geeks who've never watched or been involved in the game here, so it's uncalled for.
LOL. I didn't know I offended the Fantasy Baseball community here. Anyway, my comment was based on the stats of 2 very young players. (hence the fantasy baseball comment)

Sorry to disappoint you--no fantasy baseball team here.

I don't think it's fantasy baseball to suggest a guy that hasn't even proven he can put up numbers in AA deserves a big league starting job, do you? Seems logical to me.

We can go round and round on this but ultimately what's going to happen is, Abreu will re-aggravate his tummy muscle and the 3rd base job will go to Hu, Martinez and (hopefully not) Young.

If I could have 9 college punters on my baseball team, that's basically a guaranteed WS ring right there.

    Fact: football punters are scrappy.

    FACT!

I'm not saying DeWitt should be the starting 3rd baseman all year. Just until Nomar/LaRoche returned.

And based on your comment, you're basically saying that DeWitt NEVER had a chance. Is that right?

Pretty much. I mean, barring a miracle and the coaching staff all thinking the kid is ready, but I think I'd rather see him tear up AA first and earn his way up.
