Inside the Dodgers
:dancing-broccoli:
Something that Tony is missing (I believe) is that Ramon Martinez was let go. Thus, why Hu is on the team as the extra IF as opposed to Ramon.
As A Dodgers fan, I'm slightly surprised but very happy to see that all in one year we've seen the Big fat Tomato, RM, Lurch, Seanez AND Tomko all shown the door, while good moves were made in assigning a Chan Ho Park that pitched a great Spring but was justifiably cut, justifiably benching an awfully overpaid and overused Juan Pierre, and that the Dodgers are doing what's right for Kershaw.
In Chan Ho's case, it proves that ST means absolutely **** when it comes to looking at stats.
In Pierre's case, it proves that The Dodgers won't let financials get in the way of putting the best team out on the field. And that McCourt and Colletti are willing to take the beef with that signing as long as it means putting a more qualified batter, run producer and better arm out on the field in Ethier.
I like the fact that the ball is in the hands of the kids right now and The Dodgers are doing what's right in putting the very best team possible on the field starting tomorrow.
I'm listening to the game right now and Charlie will have Colletti on the air in the 5th.
An off-topic note:
I'm 2-2 on my MLB Beat The Streak with Ellsbury & ManRam.
Tonight, I've chosen Mark Teixeira against the Nationals.
The National's opening day pitcher?
Odalis Perez
...I have seen it all.
There's a contradiction in these statements. On one hand Chan Ho got cut because spring training stats mean nothing. And Pierre got benched partly regardless of his contract.
But, Loaiza made the starting rotation mainly because of his contract, although he did reasonably well this spring as well. And Ethier got the nod partly because of his impressive spring performance and Juan Pierre not doing anything.
It's silly to think that contracts play no part in who makes the team, especially when there's a real life example occupying the #5 spot. And even though I don't think spring training stats mean anything, they clearly do play a part in team selection.
Ethier Wins Left Field Job...
Good to see that Torre has the gumption to do what needs to be done.
Pierre on the bench! Pierre on the bench! Pierre on the bench!
Not as good as being traded but it's a start.
I never would have thought i'd be this happy to see a guy benched!
And Kershaw's line today: 4 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 5 SO :)
We have the best pinch runner in the league!
