PHOENIX -- The D-backs are close to completing a deal to acquire right-hander Dan Haren and another player from the A's in exchange for six prospects, MLB.com has learned.

In addition, the D-backs will send closer Jose Valverde to the Astros in exchange for infielder Chris Burke and reliever Chad Qualls.

A's ALWAYS do this. Wonder how their fans feel.

The Valverde news is good.

Even the six rospects news is good.

But, facing Webb and/or Haren at least every series is scary news.

Beane's track record is pretty good, he stole Haren from the Cardinals in the Mulder deal. Since they are gearing up for their new stadium opening in a few years, it's not a bad idea to turn some current assets into potential stars down the road. The way the A's are as a franchise right now, they were gonna have a hard time staying competitive in the AL West.

I did wonder if the Quentin trade was a pre-cursor to a deal for Haren though a while back in the MLB thread, guess the D-Backs knew what Beane wanted:

This would seem to take the D-Backs out of the running for Haren or Blanton, as Quentin was thought to be a key in any deal with Oakland. Unless either Carter, or 1B Conor Jackson might be of more interest to Billy Beane??

The A's need to move. Oakland doesn't deserve them.

Oh, and the Dodgers are screwed. Haren is a ****ing monster. I'm glad to see him leave the AL West.
