I'm about to the point where I've accepted it just isn't going to happen this year. The future looks good now with Haren in the rotation, but without Kendry in the lineup these guys just can't hit. Hell, I'm not sure even he would be enough. There is just nobody who wants to step up and be a hitter in clutch situations. Prime example last night, Torii Hunter taking a 3rd strike early on with guys on 2nd and 3rd. You are the cleanup hitter, you have 2 guys in scoring position, and you're team has had trouble scoring runs, and you are still going to take a pitch that close? Yep, that is what we want out of a cleanup hitter, walks. Pathetic.

It's frustrating, but maybe it will be for the best. Texas is giving Angel's management a wakeup call this year. They are not going away any time soon, so standing pat and leaving the lineup as is will not be enough to get back into the playoffs next year. Competetion in the AL West finally won't be a bad thing, but it is going to suck to be watching the playoffs without the halos in it.

Pineiro scratched with left oblique strain | angelsbaseball.com: News

ANAHEIM -- Joel Pineiro was a late scratch from Wednesday afternoon's game against the Red Sox after suffering a left oblique strain while warming up.

Shields, the Majors' premier setup man from 2004-08 before knee surgery ended his '09 season, is making his first start since '03 and 15th of his Major League career.

Pineiro has been a rock of stability in his first season with the Angels, delivering 131 1/3 innings in 20 starts, going 10-7 with a 4.18 ERA. He had a seven-game win streak snapped in New York in his previous outing seven days ago, yielding six earned runs on 11 hits in six innings.

Pineiro complained about his lack of command after that game but gave no indication of any physical issues.

    Shields is 0-3 with a 5.61 ERA in 32 appearances covering 33 2/3 innings.

    Thanks again bullpen!

I was going to go to Friday's game against the Rangers, but since we can't even beat the crappy Red Sox... I'm going to save my money instead.

Angels' Pineiro to miss 6-8 weeks with strain - MLB - Yahoo! Sports

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP)—Angels right-hander Joel Pineiro will miss six to eight weeks after straining a muscle in his left side while warming up for a start against the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday, dealing another blow to Los Angeles’ chase of another playoff berth.

Pineiro hurt an oblique muscle while throwing in the bullpen. After an MRI exam, the Angels immediately announced he’ll be out for well over a month while putting him on the 15-day disabled list.

“I just threw a curveball, and a lot of pain came through the oblique,” Pineiro said. “It’s weird. I have no idea how to explain it. It was just one of those weird things that happens. I’m really frustrated and angry that this happened right now, at this moment.”

Lee to stay in Chicago - MLB - Yahoo! Sports

HOUSTON (AP)—Chicago Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee has rejected a trade to the Los Angeles Angels, saying he prefers to finish the season with his team.

Lee says he “really kind of agonized over” the decision, but that he decided the best thing for himself and his family was to stay in Chicago.

Lee is having a tough season, batting just .248 with 11 home runs and 44 RBIs. But his Gold Glove defense would have been a welcome addition to an Angels roster that already has used six players at first base since Kendry Morales broke his leg jumping on home plate after his walkoff grand slam on May 29. The list includes catcher Mike Napoli and second baseman Howie Kendrick.

Angels general manager Tony Reagins was not willing to talk about the specifics of any proposed deals.

Yeah the season is over for sure now. We are down two starters and the BP just can't hold anything at all. Rodney, why does Mike S CONT to use this clown?!?!

I think the guy gives up runs because he wants to be a closer or something. Just sucks and the Red Sox returned the favor from the ALDS by sweeping us two times this year. Sucks big time what can you do other than count the days down to the hockey series!

It will suck not having the Halos in the postseason this year, and Texas is really in a good position for the next few years. Their lineup is better, and the farm is stocked with good talent.

The Angels need to open that bank account and make some more moves during the offseason.

Lee turned down being traded to the Angels (family issues with a sick kid), and we need to let Bobby and Juan go in the outfield next season. Even Hunter won't be as good because age will be more of an issue. We need young talent there, and we need a power bat for a DH too.

Our infield is not all that bad really. The new third baseman I think will work out pretty good, but our BP needs to be thrown out for the most part. Get rid of Rodney and Brian for sure. These clowns give up leads or add more fuel to the fire. I want an overpowering closer that locks hitters down.

TooCool and others, what do you want done during the next offseason and FA upgrades that will be on the market? There will be better choices than last year in 2011 that is for sure.

While I'm pissed off and disappointed in this under achieving team right now... I have by no means thrown in the towel yet. We still have 2 whole months of baseball to play. 58 games remaining for the Halos to be exact. We have 10 games left against Texas.

Yes, I know we're down 8.5 games and that seems pretty far but anything can happen really. The Angels have picked a really bad time to get in a offensive slump. The bullpen though? No excuses.

Angels July Record: 8-16 so far
Rangers July Record: 12-12 so far

Texas hasn't exactly been tearing it up either. I mean sure, they're not "free falling" and it's July. But 12-12 is very average. Had the Angels played well, I think they could have easily gone 16-8 instead of 8-16. =\

So even if Texas does not fall off the face of the earth in August... if they somehow play .500 ball and the Angels start winning 4 out of every 6 games, I think we're in great shape. I'm no math expert or anything, but as long as the Angels break out of this slump.. anything can happen.

Back to the 10 games left with Texas. We'll have no shot at catching them if we go 5-5 the rest of the way. The Angels will probably have to win 8 out of 10 against the Rangers and take care of business against the other teams.

I agree. However, it really depends on who is available this Winter. I have no idea who will/won't be free agents as I haven't bothered to look...

But you have to hand it to Reagins and Moreno though. They did what they could this year to give us a powerhouse team. The only part of the team they neglected is the bullpen and it shows.

Just look at some of our players though and why it didn't work out.

Morales - This one was a killer. Stupid freak injury because of our ridiculous over the top walk-off celebrations. I thought the celebrations were dumb to begin with especially when the Angels were under .500 at the time too.

Wood - Everyone (including me) counted on him to contribute. Management did drop the ball though when Wood was ready 2 years ago. They had no room for him and kept him in the minors. Now they finally give him a chance to play.. and there was just too much pressure on the dude.

At the same time, I felt like people gave up on him too quickly. Remember a few weeks ago when he hit that Grand Slam and everyone was happy for him? Even Scioscia said something like, "Hopefully that will get him back on track". Then what does he do? He benches Wood for 2-3 straight games and he returns the lineup ice cold. Just really terrible lineup decisions sometimes. So frustrating. =\

Rivera - Not sure what the hell is wrong with him this year. He's very unclutch and very lazy on defense.

Abreu - Still a clutch hitter but has been pretty lazy as of late as well.

Kazmir - This guy was great in Tampa Bay. What the hell happened to him?

Weaver - Great year. Unfortunately zero run support every time he pitches. The same goes for Santana.

    ----------------------------------

Then you look at our recent trades...

Callaspo - Useless. They only made this trade because they gave up on Wood without actually shipping him out.

Haren - Bad luck with him getting hurt on his first outing. But he seems to be good to go. He did look good for the most part though. Really can't knock on Haren since we haven't really seen him play more than 1 game yet. Good move to get him to try to win. But like I said, just really bad timing to go on a slump right now.

Didn't want Lee in the first place. Plus, as a Cubbie... once a loser, always a loser.

So to summarize... the season is not over! If we get swept this weekend though... But if we sweep the Rangers. We'll be either 5/5.5/6 games back (depending on how the Rangers do against the A's on Thursday Night)!

I've just had a feeling all season that the fire just wasn't there this year. It's not because of the loss of Lackey and Figgins, or even Vlad, even though that was one i thought the Angels should have kept 1 more season, I just didn't see the swagger. Once K Mo went down i knew we were done. Then Kazmir can't find his slider, our bullpen, which is usually one of the best in the AL, all of a sudden can't get anyone out and now the offense can't hit their way out of a paper bag.

Oh well we can throw Texas a bone this year. Next year hopefully we snag Carl Crawford, move Juan Rivera to right and get a real 1st baseman and we'll be right back in the mix.

Gotta admit the starting rotation is gonna be pretty sick for a couple years.
