    Shields was already done last year.. =\ Can't believe he's still on the roster.

    Come on now. Do you really think we were going to sweep the Yankees haha That's not going to happen, and I don't blame Shields at all. He has been pitching very well lately, and what killed us was the 6th and 7th inns. We had LOADED BASES (the score was 6-5) in both inns and could not tie the game?!?!

    Don't give Shields hell on this one. And, he has never pitched well in New York over the years too. Also, the Yankees are very good hitters which don't make it easier. Nah, Shields has been very solid for a while now...I blame the bats unable to bring in the runs when we had the chance. Not once but twice today.

    Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the series with Texas next! We have to win to gain ground in the West.

    When it's only a 2-game series (if you want to even call it a series), you are 5 games out of first place at the end of July, and the 1st place Rangers don't seem to be slowing down at all then YES, I don't see any reason you shouldn't expect to win both games.

    And of course you can't put 'all' of the blame on Shields but if 5 runs on the board by the 7th inning isn't enough to at least keep you in the game (by 1 or 2 runs) then there is a bit of a problem. That problem is pitching, more specifically the bullpen, and even more specifically Scott Shields in his ONE inning of work yesterday. 4 hits, 4 runs, & 2 homes runs isn't going to cut it for any MLB pitcher against any MLB team, even the "mighty" Yankees.

    IMO, the next 9 days including this next series against the Rangers & the MLB trade deadline could potentially make or break this season for the Angels. They win or even sweep the series & then add a key IMPACT player(s), things will look VERY hopeful. They lose the series & Reagins doesn't make a move, that's going to take a lot of air out of this team, especially after they watched them pick up Cliff Lee.

    Angels have Four Games in Texas and they sit Five Games Out:
    Sweep = 1 Game Out • Take 3 = 3 Games Out
    Split = 5 Games Back
    Lose 3 = 7 Games Back • Swept = 9 Games Back

    Los Angeles Angels get Alberto Callaspo from Kansas City Royals for 2 pitchers - ESPN Los Angeles

    Alberto Callaspo for Sean O'Sullivan and Will Smith.

    Maicer Izturis is back and we accquire someone exactly like him. Not exactly the type of power bat we need.

    True TooCool but he is a huge upgrade from Wood, and I'll take it. I am not a fan of Kevin Fransen but at least he is a better backup than Brandon Wood in my eyes. There is not a large market for third baseman atm (teams willing to lose that is).

    I wonder if we will release Wood now? As for today...a big lose for the Halos. We are now 6 games back in the West, and we NEED to win the next three in a row for a chance to gain any ground.

    Yeah, it's going to be tough folks and I'm wondering how the rest of the month will go.

    I just think Sean O'Sullivan will be a great pitcher one day, and we will not have him

    But, we need an everyday third baseman, and I don't think Kevin Fransen is the guy. Backup, yes but not a type of player you can really count on in my eyes. I'm glad Wood is done tho. Release him and move on!

    Well great pitching on both sides, but the Rangers were a little better tonight. Texas wins 1-0 and the Angels are now 7 game back in the West.

    Yeah, I think it's time to worry about finishing in second place right now. Oakland is 8 games back, and we only have a few more wins than they do.

    It's not over yet, but I do think Texas will take the West this year. The Angels did not really upgrade the team last offseason, and it's showing this season. How many games were lost because of Wood, just to name a person? Not counting the BP issues this year, and Kendy Morales out for the season.

    We had a great run, but it does not look to be our year Halos fans :(

    The next offseason better bring some much needed changes etc.

    I love it when players who are confronted with being lazy (Upton, Figgins) are suddenly ready to give 110% to go after the person who noted their laziness.
