Here is one son of an ex-major leaguer who is actually performing.

Ryan (PA): It looks like Jay Bruce and Clayton Kershaw both should not be in the minors. Isn't there a point when you just have to bring these guys up?
SportsNation Jim Callis: Bruce should have been up to start the season. I can see giving Kershaw some more time to improve his command, but it will be hard not to bring him up by midseason.

Jim Boca Raton, FL: Kershaw or Porcello??
SportsNation Jim Callis: Oh, so tough . . . I'll go Kershaw for now because he's a lefty and done it at a higher level.

Kershaw must feel like a Kings goaltender. No support.

Hasn't given up an earned run since Tax day. 4 earned runs in 6 games and can't buy a win.
Here's a guy I know the Dodgers are high on. Another infielder turned catcher and he's off to a fast start this season in Jacksonville.

Might even be sooner than that...

Michael (CA): Joe Torre stated that when Nomar comes back he will regain the starting 3B position. Am I crazy or are there two options that are much better than him with Dewitt on absolute fire and Laroche sitting in AAA?
SportsNation Jim Callis: (2:02 PM ET ) You are not crazy. Not only are those two options better, they're also a lot less expensive.

Dennis (Santa Clarita, CA): Jim, Blake DeWitt, nice story, can't last at the level he's playing now, or is he the real thing? Also, Andy LaRoche, soon to be traded?
SportsNation Jim Callis: (2:06 PM ET ) He's not supposed to be this good, this fast based on his minor league performance. But he was a first-round pick out of high school and he has legitimate hitting ability.

Steve (Kansas): Kershaw or Porcello? McCutchen or Rasmus?
SportsNation Jim Callis: (2:46 PM ET ) Kershaw, Rasmus.
Clayton Kershaw has been moved to the bullpen in Jacksonville.

This must be the start of the "keeping Kershaw fresh for the eventual callup" strategy.
