REALITY CHECK on Uribe.
Uribe's 2011 numbers:
.252 AVG
15 HR
65 RBI
1 SB
NO SPEED+NO OBA, so where do you hit this guy? 6th? 7th? 7 mil per for that? C'mon now. Yah, I know...he's versatle and can play 3-4 positions. That's important, but I think we can expect long periods of slumping and plenty of GIDP out of Uribe. I don't think he's worth the $$. Good for Uribe for cashing in on a career year.
Ned did well to get something for Theriot today, even if it's just an average middle-reliever/spot starter like Hawksworth. Any asset received for a non-tender guy like Theriot is a victory.
Other rumors from today per FSN Rosenthal; Dodgers have some interest in both Varitek and Damon. Don't see either as a particularly good fit unless it's as bench players.
I'm okay with the signing. I agree that Werth would be real nice. Now if we can only unload Broxton.
Beltre anyone? I would love for him to come back, but we'd have to get rid of Blake somehow.
Beltre would be excellent, and Blake wouldn't be an issue. There's already been talk of the Dodgers being able to add a 3b and then using Blake and Gibbons in a LF platoon. But Boras still represents Beltre and the numbers that have been thrown around so far are 5 years @ $18 million per which would seem way out of the Dodgers price range. The A's are rumored to have already offered him 5 years/$64 million which he turned down, so it'd seem the Dodgers would have to go higher than that. I think he ends up with 5 years, $75-80 million from someone.
ok so the team so far

Great depth, we could use a true true #1 starter though
Bullpen (arrgghhh!)
Hawksworth
Broxton
Kuo
Bellisario
Bats
C- ? (please not Martin)
1b- Loney for the time being
2B- Uribe
SS- Furcal
3B Blake or an upgrade
LF-?
CF- Kemp
RF- Ethier
We need at least 3 bats IMO
At this point, Kershaw is a legit #1. While he may not be in the Halladay/Lincecum/F. Hernandez/Wainwright league just yet, he's in the tier right below with the likes of Josh Johnson, David Price, Justin Verlander and Ubaldo Jimenez.
For the bullpen you left out the most dominant reliever the Dodgers had last year. Not Kuo, it was Kenley Jansen! While he's still raw as far as experience, he absolutely destroyed hitters last year (27 innings, 12 hits, 2ER, 41k, 0 HRs). He'll be a big part of the pen next year, and may allow the Dodgers to trade Broxton if the time comes. That gives them 5 arms so far, with Ned looking to sign one or two more.
The lineup does need at least one major upgrade, at either 1B, 3B or LF as you mentioned. Seems like the most bats are available at 1B, so that might be the easiest way to add another slugger. I'd love Derrek Lee on a 2 year deal, trading Loney for young assets or an OF.
