I think they're aiming to have the lowest collective on-base percentage...ever.

Dodgers found their new Paul Quantrill, meet Matt Guerrier.

Not a huge fan of spending this much on a middle reliever, with all the needs this team has it seems a bit much to commit $4 million per year to a solid but not spectacular reliever. Would rather add that $4 million to an offer for a bat and then find another Weaver type for the pen at a low salary. Uribe, Barajas, and Guerrier will make $14 million combined next year!

Bill Hall signed with the Astros. Word was that the Dodgers had narrowed their LF options to Hall and Podsnednik. If Jay Gibbons (lefty) is to be half of the platoon in LF, I' really don't see how bringing in another left-handed hitter works so don't get the interest in Podsednik. Unless Gibbons becomes purely a pinch hitter/spot starter, which doesn't make sense since they need his power.

Only free agent options left on the market (right-handed hitters) are:

Jose Guillen (brutal fielder so more of a DH type, has real power, said to be "trouble" in the clubhouse)
Andruw Jones (would never, ever happen)
Gabe Kapler (a 5th outfielder, local from Taft HS)
Lastings Milledge (only 25, can hit but marginal power, has some speed, only player available with upside)
Marcus Thames (can hit lefties, has power, used to platoon scenario) EDIT: Ken Gurnick reports the Dodgers are indeed talking to Thames.

Thames and Milledge might be worth taking a look at, if not it might be time to start looking at some trades Ned!

Time to look at the trade market Ned!

Ned doesn't strike me as a GM who is proactive in searching for trading partners.

Looks like it's going to be another long long season.

Velez is one of those speed guys who never learned how to play like a speed guy as his stinky OBP atests. One wants to handcuff him to someone like Brett Butler so he can learn how to use what he's got...but he's never shown any signs that he'll try to change his game. Such a waste.

The Dodgers are going to suck again this year. Thanks Ned.
