I heard a rumor on the radio that Prince Fielder might accept his arbitration offer and test the free agency waters next year due to this year's supposed soft market.

If that is case, it sets up an interesting scenario whereby the Dodgers would(hopefully) have a new owner and GM presented with the opportunity to make a significant splash by signing him, after all.

That being said, I bet he ends up signing with Baltimore in the next few days.
I would love for this scenario to unfold, but based on the money being spent this offseason I think Boras will find a headline making deal for Prince. If the deals aren't there, he does have the fallback to take the one-year deal from the Brewers and position it as the record breaking arbitration award that is expected. Then the new Dodgers owner can make a splash next offseason but giving Prince a huige contract. Since 2012 is already looking rough, this is about the best we could hope for.

What does suck though is that so many of these recent Dodgers deals are backloaded to be low in 2012 and then jump significantly in 2013 which will make it tough next offseason to spend. Hopefully Ned (or the new GM) can dump off some of these deals in July. There are bound to be some teams looking for starting pitching (Lilly, Harang, Capuano), relievers (Guerrier) and bench players (Hairston, Uribe). Is it bad to be hoping for a a fire sale before the season even starts?

Courts have to approve bid. Also McBankrupt is stalling as well.

They couldn't even throw some chump change at Zumaya in hopes that his arm wont fall off during the season? I would rather they give him $800 K -1 M based off incentives than blow that cash on any minor league bench player/washed up has been they've spent money on so far this offseason.

Dodgers put debt at $573 million - latimes.com

In addition to the $573 million in debt and $131-million divorce settlement, Frank McCourt's attorneys have said a sale could result in up to $200 million in taxes. That would put McCourt's total obligations at up to $904 million, not counting any income tax penalties or liability to Stow's family.
    Whoa.

Dodgers secretly bid big for Prince - CBSSports.com

The Dodgers' offer was said to have called for an average salary of about $26 million for the first four years and something in the low $20-million-range in the next three years. The bid was designed not to discourage Fielder from opting out and possibly moving to the American League where he could DH after the first four years. The total Dodgers deal was believed to have been worth in the low $160 millions.
    Sure would've been nice...
