I remember the first time Lasorda put Valenzuela in a game (the guy's first major league appearance) in a bases loaded and no outs situation. That screwball got the next three out. Amazing.
And then there was Hershiser...
Let's hope Kershaw is the next coming.

Kershaw's curve is ****iing nasty. Probably gets some of those balls called strikes if the umps could recognize when it crosses the strikezone. The kid had a good first game.

By the way, not to take any talk away from Kershaw, but Saito was ****ing impressive yesterday. I called my roommate a STL guy and he had the perfect comment. He was throwing video game pitches. Guy was sick today.

Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Bullets are cheap. Life is priceless.

Can anyone give me a "beyond the box score" rundown on the Kid? I was at a wedding yesterday and wasn't able to catch the game. I see a jittery first inning and a 7Ks in 6IP, but how did he look doing it? His stuff, composure, pace, etc.

Pujols had his number. Took him 3-2 a couple times and ended up with hits both times.

As far as I could tell, he really only has two pitches (fastball and curveball) he feels confident throwing. Here's hoping he develops a third. The 1st and 6th innings were tough on him, but otherwise he looked sharp.

Dodgers down 2-0 already. Pierre with a base running blunder, top of the 3rd

Gameday was saying his third pitch was a splitter, but it sure didn't look like it. From everything I've heard, his third pitch is a change up. I think he would be nearly unhittable if he could improve his change up.

I had heard he was working on his changeup when he was in the minors, so that makes sense. I was kinda half-watching at times, but it didn't seem like he threw it all that much.
