Agree, he's a little too erratic at this point for postseason play. With Kuo and Sherrill, we should have enough for the late innings matchups as each can go one round with the Philly lefties.
And Broxton is actually tougher on lefties than righties (.138 BA/.414 OPS/ vs. LH, .190/.541 against RH), so that gives LA three dominant relievers against lefties.
We shouldn't be seeing the tough lefty part of the order more than 3 times in the late innings, so Kuo, Sherrill and Broxton should be more than enough.
Can't get anyone out? That's like saying Orlando Hudson just hit for the cycle.
Ever since Elbert worked everything out in the minors and rejoined the big club in September, he's been great appearing as a left handed specialist. Even accounting for the whole year, lefties hit just .222/.275/.417/.692 . If we need a guy against Howard or Utley in a pinch and don't want to go to Kuo or Sherill yet (or have already used one or both), then Elbert would be a very valuable asset.
Since July 27th, Elbert's posted a 2.70 ERA and a 32/12 K/BB ratio in 30 innings (against ALL batters). Why wouldn't you want that against a team whose two best weapons are left handed???
ya it is an overanalysis but if you'd put urself in kershaws position.. wouldnt u feel a little more pressured to start the series with a solid outing? yea definately, just cuz hes a kid.. believe me.. hes the ****.. he will pitch good one way or another.. but i just htink that would be a bit of a smarter move.. well just see what happens
Dodgers manager Joe Torre planned to skip Randy Wolf and pitch Clayton Kershaw if a Game 5 was necessary in the National League Division Series, so it was no surprise that Torre on Tuesday named Kershaw to start Game 1 of the NL Championship Series that opens Thursday against Philadelphia.
