I've still not heard anyone address the question of why the Dodgers preferred to trade top prospects in exchange for salary relief. This is the most troubling recent trend we've seen, and Mannion chose to ignore that part of the question as well. Maybe it's part of the new "fluid" business model the Dodgers have adopted?

I'm sure we'll never get a straight answer. It's really frustrating. Jon Weisman over at Dodger Thoughts had a good piece on it today: Dodger president Dennis Mannion offers mixed signals on franchise | Dodger Thoughts | Los Angeles Times

I agree with Jon that 2010 & 2011 shouldn't be the primary worry, but rather the long term outlook of the club is scary.

If the team no longer has the resources to invest in its future; by giving away prospects for salary relief, giving away compensation draft picks, and refusing to spend on draft and international prospects, then the Dodgers could be in real trouble 5-6 years from now.

They are thriving now because of the large number of young players they either developed or acquired, but they won't be able to keep them all for long when the salaries begin to climb. Unless the payroll goes the way of the Yankees, they're going to lose some of these core players at some point and the real nightmare will begin.

Yea, its a crappy situation all around. I haven't even been following the hot stove. Too depressing for us Dodger fans.

Here's something to keep your mind off of the lack of off-season moves.

Here's to hoping that Withrow, Martin and Lindblom develop, top pitching prospects are so key, we'll probably see Lindblom with the big club this year.

Dee Gordon, Lambo and Kyle Russell still intrigues...even though he struck out 180 times, wow.

Theres some names to keep hope alive....

    Cool.

Martin turned to crap when he got all involved in the Hollywood night life and the famous chickies. Hope Kemp can avoid the distractions when Spring comes and focus on baseball.
Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Bullets are cheap. Life is priceless.
