So I guess hitting .236 (.195 vs LHP) and striking out 32% of the time qualifies as 'raking'? Why are fans overly obsessed with HR numbers? Dunn has a respectable OBA, but when you hit in the middle of the lineup, OBA is not as valuable as it would be hitting 1-2.

I'd stay far away from a player like Dunn. All or nothing and a liability in the field.

What about acquiring some more pitching? Juan Cruz would be an ideal setup guy for Broxton.

Orlando Hudson (when healthy) is a quality 2B. He's a switch hitter + a great leader in the clubhouse. Blake Dewitt is a nice young player, but I'd prefer Hudson for a 1-2 year contract. His left handed bat at the #2 spot in the lineup would be good IMO.

Dodger stats from the Dominican winter league last night.

    Rafael Furcal 4-for-6, 2B, R, RBI
    Andruw Jones 0-for-5, K
    Hector Luna 1-for-5, solo HR
    Claudio Vargas 2.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2K

Good luck finding another job Andruw.

I'm Ok with them signing Vargas. For essentially zero risk, he's worth a shot. The Dodgers have a good track record with guys like this, he's basically insurance as a potential #5/long reliever. Not a guy you want to pencil in the rotation, but not bad to have on the roster.

The Dodgers signed free-agent infielder Juan Castro to a minor-league contract and invited the utilityman to spring training.
Castro, 36, hit .193 with two home runs and 16 RBI in 61 games with Baltimore and Cincinnati last season, but the Dodgers liked his ability to play shortstop as a possible backup to Rafael Furcal.

Will Ned ever stop signing ****ty, old, useless utility infielders? Let Hu back up Furcal. ****ing stupid.

Why just give the job to Hu? Push him. Make him earn it. Give him some competition. His play last year certainly didn't make him automatically worthy of it this year.

Looks like it's down to Dodgers or Brewers for Trevor Hoffman. My guess is that if LA offers him the closer's job, he'll be a Dodger. If he has to compete with Broxton, the Brewers may have the edge.

I'm Ok either way, Broxton was a bit shaky as closer but the only way for him to get better is to learn on the job. Hoffman on a one-year deal would be a risk worth taking, if he completely bombs we still have Broxton. If Hoffman is solid, then we have a great 8th/9th inning combo.

If the Brewers land Hoffman, the Dodgers could always bring back Gagne??
