By the way I'm watching the A's-Giants on MLBTV. If you thought we had 3B problems, the Giants played Winn there tonight. That was odd.

Last time I checked the Padres and Diamondbacks aren't powerhouse teams either. They are playing good ball right now but they certaintly aren't out of reach. Can the Dbacks keep up their pace with the likes of Orlando Hudson and Mark Reynolds batting third and fourth? I look at the Padres lineup and it doesn't scare me. There pitching is outstanding but they're not going to score a lot of runs. I have to believe that Nomar, Kent, are going to wake up eventually. And Kemp and perhaps Loney could be a big boost. I'm not too concerned at this point only because I think the Diamonbacks will start to comeback down to Earth and like I said the Padres are certaintly not a collection of great talent either. The race is still wide open. I don't think its worth giving up a ton of young talent to get a guy like Glaus and be locked into his hideous contract for a few seasons. What trade did you have in mind as far as 3Bs go? Remember your boy Blalock isn't a viable option anymore!
At this point I'd rather have Mookie Blaylock. Texiera on the other hand...

Would you be willing to move Loney, Billingsley and Betemit for Texiera? Would that even be enough to land Texiera?

And Feliz was the catcher. Lowry played RF (not to mention the Giants ended up with him as the last batter).

Is Teixeira even seriously on the block? I've read some rumors but nothing sounds really substansial. The two things I could find are a blurb from Gammons and a Q & A with a Rangers beat writer Evan Grant that happend in May. He made it sound like Teixeira was more available than Gammons but it really is hard for me to see Texas trading him away especially with all the money Hicks has. That Michael Young contract looks retarded now. Anyways let's start with the blurbs I found on the situation.

Sounds like teams are interested so I'm sure he's not untouchable. Not many people are, I bet Teixeira is more in the you'd have to wow us with the offer rather than strictly untouchable group of players. Sounds like if anything happens it will be closer to the deadline.

Here is what their beat writer wrote about a month ago.

Evan Grant: Wow, Scott, you don't want much do you? It would be a total guess right now, but Mark Teixeira certainly would be a guy the Rangers would have to consider trading.
One thing is a given, the Rangers won't be in the race. The Angels are obviously the class of the division and although Oakland is in third I'm sure they'll give the Angels a pretty good race down the stretch. Seattle is suprisingly doing well, imagine if Felix didn't get hurt, Sexson produced, Weaver didn't make those starts, and they had drafted the hometown boy Lincecum instead of Cal's ace Morrow. All that stuff could be another post though so back to the Rangers. They're definitley out of the race and have to decide what assests they want to keep and who they want to deal. Obviously they are locked into Young at this point and with Blalock's injury he has no value. The guy that has the most value to them is Teixeira but he's also their best player and they have one more arbitration year with him.

Grant goes on to speculate on what it would take to get him.

From the Dodgers standpoint it sounds like a Loney+Billingsley deal or a Kemp+Billingsley deal would get it done. It doesn't sound like we're giving up a lot especially for Teixeira a 27-28 switch hitting 1B with power. But Grant says this in the Q & A.

Evan Grant: Minimal. For Tex. He's not had a great start to the season and has once again raised issues about his ability to start fast. If you traded Mark Teixeira right now, you'd be trading him at his lowest value. Still bring you a very good player, maybe two, but nowhere near what he might truly be worth.
From this I get the feeling that Grant may have speculated what it would take to get Teixeira at that point in time when Tex was struggling a bit. He's picked it up since then and is on pace for 30-100+ type season. I'm guessing it would take more to land Teixeira than just Loney+Billingsley especially if the Rangers are smart enough to play teams against each other. The Tigers could use a guy like Teixeira and could offer a lot in terms of prospects ditto Baltimore who have been rumored to be interested. It would probably take Loney+Billinglsey+Kemp or even LaRoche. That's a lot of talent for a guy who could test the market after next season.

Also you brought up the hole at 3B and now you bring up Teixeira. Would your plan involve moving Nomar to 3B and putting Teixeira at 1B? Just wondering since I thought we were talking about 3Bs although Teixeira would obviously solve the run production problem.

In the end I don't think I'd do a Loney+Billingsley+Kemp deal for Teixeira although I'm probably the biggest Billingsley backer on the boards so I'm admitedly a bit biased.

If we are going to be trade the farm then the only guy I would willing do so is trade for Miguel Cabrera. I don't see Ned trading or packaging our kids for a guy like Texiera when we already have Nomar and Loney at first base. Doesn't make sense. If we are going to do a deal then make one that will put us over the edge. Miguel makes sense to me, Florida is in the dumps and always looking to reduce their payroll and we have traded with them before. Yeah it seems unlikely but might as well swing for the fence.

Here's an article from the Star-Telegram about Teixeira trade talk. Nothing solid at all but aparently there's a lot of chatter at this point.

    http://www.star-telegram.com/284/story/128360.html

Adding Teixeira's bat would give Little the chance to put Nomar's pre-season vow to play anywhere the team needs him to a real test. If we were to see Nomar at 3rd would he really be any worse defensively than Betemit or Abreu?

I don't think the answer to our 3B problem is available this season via trade. I'd certainly prefer to see LaRoche get a real shot at winning the position full-time but I don't think he's ready and Little seems dead set on using Abreu. I can't say I blame him but the kid is truly a 2B and it shows almost nightly in the field.

Ideally I'd love to be patient with all our kids but we've got a genuine shot at taking the West this year and possibly winning our first playoff series in nearly 20 years with our current pitching staff. So while I wouldn't sell the farm to acquire Teixeira, it honestly is pretty tempting.

Cabrera is going nowhere. Teixeira possibly is available and Loney and Nomar aren't in the same class as Teixeira at this point. If you add Teixeira's bat to this lineup we instantly become the favorite to win the West. His stick is THAT good.

Tex is a Boras client who is soon to be eligible for free agency. My favorite player in the bigs and it would be sweet to see him in Dodger blue but it's not going to happen.
