Honest question, will we get swept by the Mets?
Good god, man. Talk about overspending. I doubt that deal would ever get done though since no one besides Billingsley is really major league ready (and I'd have a really hard time parting with him.) and Florida would create a huge hole at 3B - bad player management.
Anyway, not to say that Cabrera isn't worth it, but we're basically mortgaging half the farm on that deal.
Not really overspending when you think about it, we still keep a majority of our bullpen (yes C-Bill would hurt to let go) and add Henry Owens to it who isn't having a bad season at all with a 1.96 ERA in 23 innings. Then we also would get a franchise type player in Miguel Cabrera and we won't have to worry about that position for a very long time and in the process adding a bat. So we fill two needs with one player in this deal. The Marlins love prospects and with their season heading for the dumps real quick, they might want to offload on salary. Miguel is the very few guys I would make this deal for, come on he is 24 years old with some World Series experience and is considered one of the top players in this game. This kind of trade will also have an impact on other teams in the west as well.
Like I said, not saying that Cabrera is not worth it but it's a lot to give up considering how The Dodgers feel about Kemp & LaRoche.
If finding cornerstones to build this team around or to add to is the key - then let's also look towards spending for Ichiro & Holliday. I just don't know if the upgrade is necessary considering what we'd need to give up.
The veteran sits again tonight.

Martin jumps to top of NL All-Star ballot
The latest National League All-Star team voting update has a distinct shade of Dodger blue.
According to the latest results released Monday by Major League Baseball for the 78th All-Star Game, to be played on July 10 at San Francisco's AT&T Park, several Dodgers made big moves at the ballot box, led by Russell Martin, the new leader at catcher.
...
Martin, who was in third place and trailed by roughly 90,000 votes a week ago, moved past Atlanta's Brian McCann and Paul Lo Duca of the Mets into the top spot.
Grady is like the Marc Crawford of hockey the way he juggles the line-up!
****ing Pierre is back in the 2 spot. Why? Kemp should be starting in CF but if Juan-for-5 has to play let him bat 8th.

Make it happen damn't.
Glad to see Russ is tops in All-star voting. I figured he could pass McCann but didn't think he would supplant Lo Duca. Nice work.
