We considered trading those guys to the Red Sox just a few months ago for an aging Manny Ramirez, who also has a bloated contract, due 18 million this year! Miguel Cabrera is 24 freaking years old and isn't even his prime yet with a World Series ring. He solidifies the infield for a very long time along with Martin, Loney, Abreu, Furcal , and Cabrera. This would be one of the best if not the best infield in the Majors for quite a while. We have two problems right now, don't have a big bat and we keep shuffling players at third. (Actually three, a weak arm outfield)
You have to give to get, the current team we have out there is not going to win any playoff series anytime soon with no bat.
It's not guaranteed that those two will sign with the Dodgers. Rockies are supposedly intent on keeping their young players and who knows where Ichiro will go if anywhere other than Seattle. If finding cornerstones to build this team around or to add to is the key - then let's also look towards spending for Ichiro & Holliday. I just don't know if the upgrade is necessary considering what we'd need to give up.
