Another reason to hate the Yankees.

On a side note, baseball is the devil. In a time where people are struggling to make ends meet to see these lucrative contracts being handed out is crazy-honestly if this doesnt alienate people to an already alienatable game nothing will.

I think as a Yankee fan (me) I am excited.

But you cannot say previously they are buying a championship.

Since 1995, only two teams have had ten or more players that were home grown. They Yankees and the Angels. Red Sox in 2004? 1 player on their roster whp played in the WS was drafted.

Every year, the Yankees averaged 11 home grown players. Just like the Red Wings, they know how to grow talent. They drafted right for so many years. What hurt them is they did not make good trades and free agent signings which cost them draft picks.

So as a fan, as much as I love you guys, this is the first time where they are going crazy spending on free agents.

We would all love it if the Kings did it right?

danny's right. Their dynasty was a result of Jeter, Posada, Rivera, Williams, etc. etc. coming to prominence. Their more recent failures have come when they've tried to buy everyone with a pulse and things just not working out.

It looked like Cashman was getting his way and New York would be going back to building through the farm to maybe set up another run, but it seems like the Little Steins are trying to flex their muscle.

And to complement those players, the Yankees brought in key role players and starters who at the time were not all-stars or were way past their prime.

Charlie Hayes, Cecil Fileder, Scott Brosius,Tony Fernandez, Jose Vizcaino,Luis Sojo, etc.

Not only that, but they also gave up solid talent in return in for trades.

They earned every one of those rings.

Even though they signed these marqee names, Jeter, Rivera, Posada, Joba,Wang and Cano are still their boys. That is a damn good set to build around.

Spend tons of money, it won't matter. CC will be hurt for half of the season after throwing 250+ innings this year. Tex is a very good player but he isn't scaring anybody in the playoffs. Burnett has only hit 180 IP in 3 of the last 8 seasons and the dude is only getting older. Take it to the bank that he will be on the DL a few times.

I wouldn't at all be surprised if they missed the playoffs again.

    Penny to the Sox.

The Red Sox have an agreement in place with pitcher Brad Penny that will be finalized tomorrow, a source confirmed tonight.
The one-year deal will have a base salary of $5 million. Incentives and performance bonuses can increase the total deal another $3 million if Penny pitches more than 160 innings.
Red Sox agree with Brad Penny, Josh Bard - BostonHerald.com
