I'd be surprised to see anyone in the discussion if that's Jones' asking price.

If Vernon Wells got $18mil/yr for seven years before hitting the open market, then it doesn't seem that outlandish.

Jesus, I had no idea Wells made that kind of money. Vernon Wells?

No doubt Jones is all-world, in terms of potential. He just seems to be pissing away his big payday this season.

But you're right, combine a good agent, a desperate GM, and an ignorant owner and who knows where you end up.

Back to the thread topic: Seems like a light year this year in terms of who's on the market at the deadline.

From ESPN....the Braves have acuired Octavio Dotel from the Royals for:

Kyle Davies, Manuel Acosta and Lillibridge.

One less guy for us to consider.

    Eric Gagne anyone?

It does seem like. Maybe it has something to do with so many close races.

I've been calling for the trading of Ervin Santana for years now. I'd yell at Hudler and Pysioc everytime they commented about how great a pitcher he is. Now look where that has gotten the Angels. We could have had Texiera for Saunders/Kotchman/Santana. I would have done the deal.

Lohse to Phils, Mets close to trading for L. Castillo. Seems like the NL teams are heavily the buyers this year.

Reports are they wanted uber pitching prospect Nick Adenhart as well. I think adding Wood and Adenhart to that deal would have been to much.

Kotchman and Saunders though, if I were an Angel fan I'd do that in a heartbeat. I don't think Saunders has that much upside and Teixeira is a huge upgrade over Kotchman.
