Psshhhh, even I backed that trade from day one and I was a Depo hater. From a baseball standpoint that was a no brainer. Can't tell that to all the people who were in love with LoDuca though.

I was against the trade when it was made, right up through the Mets celebrating on our field last October with Lo Duca and Mota in NY uniforms, with Shawn Green to boot.
A few years later, with Russell Martin here and a whole different team, it doesn't look so bad. My objection wasn't with Penny himself but the timing of the deal (18 games over 500 and pulling away in the division), and the depth of it (ie Hee Miss Ball, trading Mota). As jbruin said, Penny giving us 8 innings that year didn't help, and sucking down the stretch and in the playoffs last year didn't help.
