D-backs win. Magic number remains 8.
Are the Dodgers going to have to do this all by themselves?? C'mon Gnats! BE THE SPOILER!!
Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Bullets are cheap. Life is priceless.
This is about KuoThis time, he said, he will not even play catch for several days, but there is growing concern about his availability and durability, not only for the final 12 games, but beyond.

• Ramirez is hitting .401 since joining the NL, the highest batting average for any player with that many at-bats in the league since Bill Terry in 1930. But the Dodgers' first-place standing has coincided with other changes -- the insertion of Angel Berroa at shortstop, and Blake DeWitt at second base. Talent evaluators say that Garciaparra and Jeff Kent have almost no range left at this stage in their careers, which is a problem when you have the likes of Derek Lowe and Greg Maddux in your rotation.
Berroa came to the Dodgers in a minor trade based partly on the recommendation of L.A. bench coach Bob Schaefer, who knew Berroa from their days together with the Royals and vouched for him as a person. The Dodgers' ERA before the shift of Berroa into the starting lineup: 3.81. Since then, the team's ERA is 2.13. And the Dodgers' record is 14-2.
Casey Blake sparked the latest win, writes Tony Jackson. Heard this: Brad Penny's season is likely over, after he threw in the ball in the 83-84 mph range the other day.
Damn, that's 2 bullpen arms down. Kuo was solid for a good part of the season.
Kuo is a big big loss. Let's cross our fingers and hope he recovers but it seems like he could be done. Hopefully Elbert is ready. Luckily, Beimel has been outstanding, but Kuo is a different kind of lefty. Elbert has a similar skill set, I think we'll see him get some more work in the near future.
Kuo was probably mismanaged. Just because the guy didn't have anything flare up doesn't mean it couldn't have. Torre didn't take enough of a preventative measure and give guys mandatory days off.
This is the same problem he's had with Martin.
He's not firm enough. He'll say "You're off today" and wind up using him if the game is close. This is what he did with Kuo down the stretch and that's probably why Kuo can't throw anymore.
As for Brad, he was damn good last year. He probably needs to be opened up to see what the problem is. I say we just let him go.
Hurray Dodgers.
It's a good thing we have so many young arms high in the system. I never counted on Penny this season, I never counted on (but really pulled for) Kuo (everything he did was gravy, given his arm problems) or Schmidt. Same could be said for Kent, Garciaparra, and Jones on the other side of the ball.
I'm happy they're doing well right now, but I've been pessimistic about this team since the start of the season. We're a good team, but we really needed a lot of gambles to pay off for us to be a dangerous one. I suppose the Rockies showed us that all you need is an opportunity in the post-season to go far. Of course, they did fall short...
