and let's not get into W-L, ERA, IP, OB RBI, OB OBP, Runs or Hits!

Trevor Hoffman is put in the game to get saves. I don't care if he loads the bases, gives up runs, or walks 5 every time before getting the 3rd out. A save is a save.

He had more saves...and will have more saves this year...than Saito...period.

Like the Raiders making the Superbowl and losing...both the Chargers and the Padres have been to their respective Championships and lost in the past 20 years.

I'm not disputing that the they never won anything because they haven't...I'm just not living off the past and constantly bring up how good our team was in 1955!

That seems to be the constant reply from Dodgers fans and quite honestly some Raiders fans when things are brought up about either the Chargers or the Padres being good...it's like "Well...uh...we have 5 championships how many do you have?"

It's just a tired argument is all.

It must suck to be a Kings, Chargers, Padres fan. I sympathize with you, that's all.

    Must feel pretty inept.

Kings, Dodgers, Carolina Panthers, FC Barcelona. I'm just saying, at least I've had a few championships to cheer about. You're a trooper though. Like I said, as a fellow Kings fan, I sympathize with you.

Yeah...I have been a glutton for punishment for many years now. The Padres and Chargers have turned it around. Now if my favorite sports team wake up it would be nice.

When was the last time the Padres even won 90 games since reaching the WS in '98?

    Let's see...

1999-2003...4th and LAST place finishes (average of 72 wins a year!)
2004...won 87 games, good enough for third place.
2005..."won" the division by winning 82 games.
2006...won 88 games, finished tied with the Dodgers, but lucked out and won the tiebreaker because they won the head-to-head series against LA.
2007...won 89 games. Close but no cigar! What a chokejob, BTW.

Yeah, you act as if the Padres have been light years ahead of the Dodgers in this decade.

LOL, you've got to be ****ing ****tin' me. You don't judge closers solely on the number of saves. Jose Valverde had the most saves last year. Yay! He was officially the best closer last year!

Saves is the most overrated stat in pitching, outside of W/L.

Saito's the best closer in the NL West. But that's not saying much since an old, soft-tossing Hoffman is his best competition.

Loading the bases, giving up runs and walking 5 leads to a lot of pitches thrown. And by the end of the year (like we saw with Hoffman) you run out of gas.

No...that's not it at all. I think EVERYONE is missing the point here. I know the Padres haven't EVER won anything...but they have been a team that could possibly go deep in the playoffs or even to the World Series the last 3 years. PERIOD. The same can be said for the Dodgers.

My point, when this section of thread began, was that I DON'T LIVE OFF PAST GLORY (even though there is really none in the Padres case). I am all about the team NOW and most, not all but most, Dodgers fans are living in the past. If you want to debate the teams on the field now...or even last year great! Not the team from 30 years ago, when the Padres weren't even playing.

And for all you that still want to live in the past - The Padres won the PCL title in 1937 with a 18 year old Ted Williams leading the way!
