Thread: Superagent suggests new baseball stat

Figures Borasssssssssssss would be involved in something like this. The first 2 games of the WS at a neutral site? Lame.

I haven't followed baseball in years, so have they stopped giving out Golden Gloves? I thought that's what determined the exceptional fielders, not some stupid new stat.

Yes, but Golden Gloves are also usually a flawed award--there's an inherent bias towards the bigger name guys, the offensively-talented guys, and the guys who make the spectacular play versus the more steady guys.

Not to mention it is somewhat silly to see 3 CFs win the award in the outfield because they don't differentiate by position.

That said, this is a stupid idea.

They still give Gold Gloves out, but it isn't for exceptional defensive play anymore. How else could you explain Rafael Palmeiro and Derek Jeter?

Don't forget Benji Molina and his back to back Gold Gloves with the Angels. Any non-myopic Angels fan would tell you that he sucked defensively. His fielding pct was great because all those dirtballs that got behind him are charged as a wild pitch to the pitcher.

Fan voting for all-stars is bad enough, but this idea sucks.

Or maybe, upon closer examination, Jeter would actually be reduced to making Drew-level money because there is no "PEP" category...that's "phantom exceptional play", which Jeter excels at with the help of the ass-licking media.
