The guy was making $7.5 and that IS a lot of money but in terms of regular dollars, yes we can't really compare to our lives. But think about this. If you were on a year to year contract in your job and you had to come back in for another contract and you had had a fairly decent year, not as good as others but still good amongst your other years. You are a long serving employee, shown dramatically good results at various times in your career but always above average results. Then you come in to take a look at your new contract and you are offered an incentive laden deal at 50% LESS THEN LAST YEAR!
Yeah, I think you would be insulted as well ...

I think the Yankees wanted him gone, and have done it in such a way that they still came out of it looking like it was not their fault. Im 100% certain they knew what Torre would say to their offer.
