I'm glad. Would I turn down 5 million a year? NO

The real joke wasn't the amount of money offered, but all the incentives in that contract for reaching the post-season, as if Joe Torre needed any incentive! That contract questioned Torre's commitment to coaching, and was a big "F*** YOU" to him. Joe was right to say "F*** YOU" right back.

Ahh, Jesus !Why don't they just cut the man's balls off. He's got a family to feed and he's barely making ends meet as it is !

The guy was making $7.5 and that IS a lot of money but in terms of regular dollars, yes we can't really compare to our lives. But think about this. If you were on a year to year contract in your job and you had to come back in for another contract and you had had a fairly decent year, not as good as others but still good amongst your other years. You are a long serving employee, shown dramatically good results at various times in your career but always above average results. Then you come in to take a look at your new contract and you are offered an incentive laden deal at 50% LESS THEN LAST YEAR!

Yeah, I think you would be insulted as well ...

I think the Yankees wanted him gone, and have done it in such a way that they still came out of it looking like it was not their fault. Im 100% certain they knew what Torre would say to their offer.
