Both Galarraga and Joyce's reactions are admirable. Blown calls are a part of the game... Everyone knows he pitched a perfect game. It sucks, but it is what it is.
The MLB* record books also aren't the Declaration of Independence, don't open up that can.

Both Joyce and Galarraga showed amazing class with their reactions, at first I was so pissed at Joyce but now I feel bad for the guy. He knows he screwed up and feels REALLY bad about it. I wish Selig would give Galarraga the Perfect Game but like someone has already said, that would probably start something that wouldn't be good.
Just a completely unfortunate situation.
You are getting cheated out of one of sports most amazing accomplishments you truly earned, which only 19 other players in HISTORY have ever done, everyone KNOWS you deserve it, and yet you just can't have it.
Obviously it can't be changed, but you can't help but feel horrible for the Umpire and even worse for the pitcher.
This is why the "human element" that pundits tout as being part of baseball's charm and mystique is a ****ing joke.
Joyce ****ed up but Selig is a jackass for not doing the right thing here.
Bud Selig is absolutely correct in not calling it a perfect game. Would set a horrible precedent and you would have to review all recorded games with the slightest controversy.Quote:

I don't think the call should be overturned.. It's part of the game, which both Galarraga and Joyce said. I'm pretty sure that Galarraga will always be remembered for the perfect game anyway.. (too bad it's not in the record books though!)
This umpire isn't Jim Joyce but it is along the lines of 'umpires making bad calls/decisions,' from the Angels @ Royals game yesterday:

Umpires and referees always talk about not wanting to be shown up and this guy goes out and completely shows up the catcher. I guess he over-reacted with Scioscia earlier in the game as well...
