Kotchman was one of my favorite Angels, but we basically got a straight up trade for him where last year the price was Kotchman, Saunders and Brandon Wood or Howie Kendrick. Remember, they also have Kendry Morales that has a higher offensive upside than Kotchman waiting for an opportunity to play. He's already proven he could hit .300 with better power at the MLB level with all the action he got last season.

I say this was as good of a calculated risk as you could ask for at the trade deadline. If they win, everyone is happy. If they don't win and sign him, everyone is still happy. If they don't win and don't sign him, Morales can step in and there shouldn't be any drop off from Kotchman.
This really puts it into perspective for me. Thanks, Space_Shot.

I loved the deal from the start, but seeing the pariculars (that I didn't want to have to look up) laid out like that makes it the perfect steal. I wanted Mark Teixeira last year, but you're right - the asking price was too much. This is an absolute steal. I had really grown to like Kotchman alot - he's become a great hitter and he's still getting better. But Teixeira is is already there and still young.

I'll be pissed if we don't sign him. But they say his agent is looking for 10 years at $230 million. I'd let K-rod if I had to. Our closing bullpen is solid with Sheilds and Arredondo. Word is K-rod wants $20mil per... and as good as he is, I think he's too erratic for that kind of money.

    ...

...and then there's Guerrero's contract as currently the highest paid Angel...

    ...

I'm starting to over-think this again...

    ...

How 'bout if we just toast to stealing one of the best players in the game today - and the BIG bat they've needed for a looonnnngg time - finally!

I'm not sure giving him the 200 mil will be that hard. I'm all for letting K Rod walk and as much as i like GA, he's 36 and i have no problem letting him walk as well.

So with the 16+mil your not paying K Rod and GA coming off the books, there's your 20mil to sign Teixeira. I actually think, if the Angels win it all, it won't be hard to resign him. Who wouldn't want to play in So Cal, on the best team in baseball with an owner who wants to win and a place that plays near capacity every home game.

The problem may be getting Vald an extention.

It is? Either way, Angels have those, too. Don't kid yourself.

Also, Manny doesn't care about the Angels.

True. Manny only cares about Manny. So, is Torre going to make him cut his hair per team policy?

Do not give them too much credit.

If the Angels win the World Series and no one cares does it
matter? It's like the tree falling in the forest deal...who gives
a ****. As long as the Red Sox play in the AL, Anaheim is not
winning the Series. Let's not forget about that anemic offense...
    anyway, no one cares.

Thanks T Brown for clearing things up for some of these
    brain surgeons.

Mark Teixeira added some iron to the Halos bloodstream. Looks like their "anemia" problem has been solved. Poor Dodger fans, poor poor Dodger fans. Angels have a dynasty on their hands folks!

Now all they have to do is win a few World Series in the next several years.

anyway when it comes down to it, I'd root for the Dodgers against the East Coast teams. We have a common enemy people, and its the Yankees Mets and Red Sox!
