NYRB is very happy with Bruce Arena. right now Chicago is w/o a coach, just an intrim coach. Capeelo has been rumored, hell who hasn't been rumored to be coming to MLS post Beckham. Veron from the Argies is the new hot rumor, Chivas, Salt Lake and DCU are his alleged destinations.

If SJ waits anohter few week Yallop will be availbale, Sigi would also love to move back to Cali , Steve Sampson, Ralph Perez, or Martin Vasquez also ready. Martin may be the best choice IMO if you can't get Capello.

First, you just called me stupid. Lemme find the appropriate smiley response.

    or shock:

Second, how many British/Chinese/Korean/Indian folks owned LA Galaxy jerseys before Beckham signed with MLS? Now, how many are gonna own 'em by Christmas? I'm guessing a whole lot more. But don't listen to me - I'm stupid.

Herbalife is now plastered across the front of all those jerseys the Galaxy are selling around the world. They know coming in that the US isn't a soccer market, they know it's an uphill climb in this country. But they don't care 'cause they're name is now plastered on people all over the world!

Yeah! He got bajillions of dollars to come play in a place where no one cares about the sport (so he can go ahead and suck for 5 years) and to be forgotten by the media the next time Paris Hilton, Tom Cruise or Britney Spears step outside their house.

So not only does he get PAID, but he gets to be ignored while doing it.

"In England, our league is considered second class, but I honestly believe if you took a helicopter and grabbed a bunch of MLS players and took them to the perceived best league in the world they wouldn't miss a beat and the fans wouldn't notice any drop in quality.''

    Stop making **** up.
That, I hadn't read before. But I will say I saw a live interview with Lalas on ESPN where he specifically mentioned the lower divisions, not the top level. If he'd said top level, I'da called BS. And I call BS on Lalas based on that article.

Now go somewhere, have a cookie, and chill the F out.

So, only British/Chinese/Korean/Indian folks or non-Americans are going to buy Galaxy jerseys?

Herbalife is now plastered across the front of all those jerseys the Galaxy are selling around the world. They know coming in that the US isn't a soccer market, they know it's an uphill climb in this country. But they don't care 'cause they're name is now plastered on people all over the world!
Fair point on the commercial side of things. If I were HerbalLife, I would have done the same. I already posted elsewhere that Madrid made US330 million on Beckham jerseys over 4 years so I acknowledge the commercial impact of Beckham.

However, only two companies, BenQ and Siemens, got on the Real Madrid jersey in four years.

As much as you want the Galaxy jersey to look like your Hot Dog on a Stick uniform, do you really think the Galaxy are going allow that to happen?

Yeah! He got bajillions of dollars to come play in a place where no one cares about the sport (so he can go ahead and suck for 5 years) and to be forgotten by the media the next time Paris Hilton, Tom Cruise or Britney Spears step outside their house.

    You're making **** up again.

He wants to be part of the England team. He has already been axed before, and he knows his call ups are based on performances. The European Championships are in 2008 and the World Cup in 2010.

Not that what Alexi Lalas said should be taken seriously, but he also publicly stated that Beckham must focus on soccer.

The last thing Beckham wants to do is to be forgotten by the media. He loves the attention he receives on and off the pitch and Los Angeles allows him to take advantage of that.

That, I hadn't read before. But I will say I saw a live interview with Lalas on ESPN where he specifically mentioned the lower divisions, not the top level. If he'd said top level, I'da called BS. And I call BS on Lalas based on that article.
There's a lot more about soccer you haven't read.

Alexi Lalas's interview was shown on BBC news all over the world, and I saw the interview while I was traveling.

What you claim on this matter is irrelevant.

Get your facts straight before calling anyone BS.

Not impressed by Espn's coverage, too much showing of airheads (and not cute ones either Katie Holmes for example) and people in the crowd, and not enough showing of the game.

A point to remember about these friendlies is that the MLS is in the middle of their season, whese as the touring EPL teams are only a few days or at most a couple of weeks into the start of their training pre-season. Also, the EPL teams usually don't start or even play some of their key players. Chelsea played a couple of players tonight that won't even make their team next season.

thats the standard BS line we hear when a EPL team plays a MLS team. Everton lost to RSL tonight 2-0. Everton play at HDC in a few days, I don't think its open to the public, lest hope they can handle a USL or PDL team.
If the EPL was as good as the defenders say their "pub" teams would MLS teams all day everyday. Fact is the EPL teams struggle with MLS teams. No Chelsea didn't struggle, but it wasn't as one sided as everyone thought, including the MLS supporters.

BTW they had 30K there tonight, they cannot announce more than 27K because of the fire marshal

To say teams in pre-season form and mid season form don't make a difference is ridiculous.

You don't think most NHL teams, and players, are better in midseason form than they are during preseason?

Congrats to RSL, but ManUtd also looked like **** in their first two preseason matches in Japan and Korea. The first match ended up in a 2-2 tie and ManUtd started the match with most of their stars. Their defense was swiss cheese

Liverpool as a team looked out of sync in their first two preseason matches, even though some individual shined through.

Chelsea's main strength is defense, not free flowing football played by Arsenal and ManUtd. Most bandwagon Chelsea fans don't know that either.

A motivated Chelsea and Everton in midseason form would completely dominate any MLS team.

What I saying is if these EPL that THAT SUPERIOR to MLS teams they should be able to manhandle a MLS team even in preseason. Either EPL are are far superior and your point of preseaon is a fraud or MLS is better than than you want to admit. You can't have it both ways.

I think a preseason top tier NHL would have no problems with a mid season lower division team. I am not talking the Kings or a team that would of have relgated but a playoff contender.
