The Galaxy made 14 million dollars in ticket sales and other revenue in just a couple months after Beckham announced his signing in November. And to think he hasn't even played a single game in the MLS yet. And they could surely use him considering the team has only won 3 out of 12 games this year.

    Correctamundo

As for Beckham, he's not a goal scorer like Gretzky, but he ability to see the game and deliver the ball in the right spot for someone to finish is very similar. The league will be much better off with that sort of playmaking

Will soccer / football ever reach NFL levels? Hell no, but it could definately surpass the NHL and push the NBA in terms of ratings and attendance numbers (hell, on a game by game basis, top MLS teams push baseball teams in attendance numbers unless the Cubs / Yankees / Red Sox are in town)

Redxalonso is right, but the guys here don't understand how big he is. This is much bigger than Gretzky coming to LA.

2 years ago I was in a little coffee shop in Chinatown, San Fran. nobody spoke English but on the back wall is a poster of.............Beckham.

He will vastly improve this team and the competition.

Uggh, I wouldn't be surprised if it was her doing in the first place so she could try and reinvent her star.
you know....for such a rich and good looking guy David's wife sure is butt ugly. I predict he'll hook up with some hot Hollywood chick within a year. Not because he should but because that is what happens to celebrities out here.

I guess I'm in the minority on this website when i say i'm actually looking forward to going to a Galaxy game and watching him play. I know when Real Madrid came to town it was pretty exciting being in a environment so jazzed up about a soccer game. I'll be at the Chelsea game and look forward to watching him hopefully improve the stature of the club and the league.

Don't like the new kits at all, hate the new logo and the new sponsor (Herbalife is the best the Galaxy could do?).

Found it amusing seeing Villarigosa out there pandering in a city that is NOT part of LA.

I care, even though I hate the Galaxy and don't have a team right now.

I thought the snub of Carson was kinda bogus, though. That would never fly up here.

simple...it's a major sporting event that happens every what? 4 years? Tournaments of any kind will attract large crowds because they are short tournaments and offer the lure of USA USA vs the rest of the world. Americans are competitive. We watch gymnastics every 4 years because we want to beat other countries. As soon as the Olympics are over we don't watch it. Heck it isn't even televised.

Think Gretzky's influence of hockey in L.A and the southern belt of America. It's naive to say it "definitely" won't happen with Beckham and soccer in America.
I think the sporting landscape is much different when Gretzky came to down than it is today. LA fans were much more receptive at the time because it gave them and opportunity to win another championship. The Lakers had come into their own winning 5 rings in the 80's, the Dodgers won in '81 and '88 and the Raiders even stopped by to bring a couple of Super Bowl rings to the city of Angels. There was pre-mature talk as LA as the "City of Champions." What about the Kings? They didn't have one but now they have the "Great One" and the sports fans of LA had visions of suckling at Lord Stanleys teat. Sure the Kings had about 8,000 die hard fans back then but when Wayne showed up suddenly the wheels fell off the bandwagon.

Well today, the Raiders are gone, the Lakers suck, the Dodgers haven't won in nearly 20 years and the Kings are cupless. Believe me, the sports fans of Los Angeles want the Lakers and Dodgers to get back to winning again much more than they care about Beckham.

Trust me, those jerseys are hanging in the deep corner of most trendy American tourists closets. They only wore them when they were traveling in mother England so that they can look like they belong.
