I'm not a soccer fan but I did watch the game last night... they looked like a completely different team with Beckham in the game. The 2nd goal where he fed Donovan on a break was amazing... NOW I see what all the hype is about. That was a thing of beauty.

I was at the game. It was an amazing atmosphere, and so far it looks like Becks is proving me right. I said he'd skip Toronto, play vs. United in DC, skip New England, play vs. United in LA, and skip NY.
What's the reason? Toronto, New England, and NY play on FieldTurf. Beckham has been vocal about his dislike of FieldTurf, so I didn't expect him to play on it.
Also, under FIFA rules, a player cannot represent his club when his country has requested his release for an international match.

So that goal cost the Galaxy 1/4 billion dollars.
Wise spending there

Galaxy fans need not worry about missing Beckham for Euro 2008.
With the injuries England has, and an incompetent manager in charge, Beckham might still be playing for the Galaxy in the summer of 2008.
Rooney - out two month(broken foot)
John Terry - out another two or three weeks(broken toe)
Gerrard - out for at least next qualifying match(broken toe)
Michael Owen - out indefinitely and will be out of shape(bruised thigh)
Aaron Lennon - out until January(Knee surgery)
Jamie Carragher - retired(incompetent manager)
Sol Campbell - injured but is coming out of retirement
Frank Lampard - Chronically fat, overrated, and useless without his Chelsea teammates.
What's wrong with Steve McClaren? - Brainless. A born #2 whose assistant is the born #1.

Yup, that's the only goal he's going to score in the next 5 years, and that's all he brings to the team.

Too bad you can't bend a puck like you can a soccer ball.

That was about as exciting as watching Gretzky go to the AHL after his years with NYR and scoring on some scrub goalie.

Funny because there's some truth to this. But i still feel some jealousy from those blokes.
