Peter Schmeichel.
Olliver Kahn isn't very far behind.
When he's done with his career, Petr Cech could be rated as high as those two.
Higuita was a fairly mediocre but g'damn he made watching Colombian games fun.
Best American Goal tender Kasey Keller and possibly one of the best performances in a single game as a goalie.
Perhaps his most famous clean sheet came in the historic 1998 win vs. Brazil. Keller played all 90 minutes in goal and made ten saves, many from point blank range, in preserving the 1–0 shutout victory for the U.S. His performance in goal prompted Brazilian great Romario to remark “That is the best performance by a goalkeeper I have ever seen.”[4] Additionally, it was the subject of the song "Kasey Keller" by synth-pop band Barcelona.

That is much tougher than naming the best NHL goalie. It's not as if everyone stacked the shin guards until the mid-eighties and then some guy came along and showed everyone how to not suck.
Most of the people are naming only two goalies as the possible #1 today: Buffon and Casillas, including football players. I'd have to go with best payed goalie ever and a goalie for which highest compensation ever was payed. He's great.
As for best ever - impossible task. There is no best ever goalkeeper.
David Seaman was the best Keeper of all time....if the only metric used in deciding this was Moustache growth.
Guillermo Ochoa of Club America in Mexico currently for me. Of all time, I liked Andoni Zubizarreta of Spain.
