Arena is a solid hire, but they could hire Jesus Christ and he couldn't do anything with that back line.....
When the Galaxy added Beckham, the consensus was that their fortunes would take a sharp turn in either direction. It could be argued that his first season was doomed due to the incredible greed that masterminded a schedule that had them playing road games in every MLS city during the back end of the schedule to get those road sellouts in addition to all the exhibitions and SuperLiga matches. They still came within one game of qualifying for the playoffs but had nothing left in the tank.
This season the team was stripped of all complementary talent and the team now consists of Donovan, Beckham, rookies and has-beens (with the possible exception of Eddie Lewis). Had they been able to hang on to Cannon and Albright, their fortunes would certainly be brighter. Alan Gordon? He is the MLS equivalent of Derek Armstrong and has no place taking a roster spot on a team with serious championship aspirations. Let that be your barometer for the team.
The rules on DP was changed thi soffseason so the Galaxy could keep Becks, Mandycakes, Ruiz adn someone else, don't remeber who. They had their home schedule front loaded to get a nice coushion before the other tourneys started AND most the teams they played at home early were teams below .500 last season. they were gifted every advantage they could have so they could play in MLS Cup at HDC at seasons end.
Because they were more focused on money and the Beckham roadshow and far less is building a quality TEAM, they now find themselves at the bottom of the table and missing the playoffs AGAIN. Will Arena help, ABSOLUTELY this season, NOPE. MLS couldn't possibly do any more to get the Galaxy into the playoffs. This is will be the 4th time they hosted MLS Cup and have not been in it. Thats saying alot considering the league is only 13 seasons old.

Disaster again of a season due to the stupidity/greed of Lalas, AEG, etc. You do not start the season with the combination of an unproven goalkeeper and a shaky defense. You cannot just outscore opponents in soccer and expect to win.
Personally, I don't care about Beckham anymore. Don't necessarily hate him, but if getting rid of him and having a team once again ala Sigi (Columbus anyone?) is what I want.
Will probably not renew my season tix for next year (sat in 138/ Riot Squad), but I'll wait and see what they'll do in the offseason. Arena is a good hire and combining both GM/coach roles makes it easier for direction (ala like they do in Europe), but you gotta give him about two seasons to right this wreck.
Will be there this Sunday to win my free t-shirt or something.

Actually have been impressed with Saunders in goal. Watching him throw Troy Roberts out of the way to get a ball was classic.
We'll see what Bruce does. Landon may be off to Europe. They still need a good holding midfielder.
