O'Shea is your classic jack of all trades master of none. Against the likes of Fulham and Bolton he's ok. He can grind things out in the midfield and win the ball. But against top class sides he's outmatched.
Fletcher is a bit of a tweener, he's a good passer but not fast enough to play wide. And he's too much of a lightweight to play CM in a 4-4-2. He plays well in a 4-3-3 where he does all the donkey work and lets the better players distribute.
Regarding Ronaldo I was pretty harsh on him, the giveaway in the middle of the park was inexcusable but he did have United's best chance. I'm not sure what else he could have done on that volley(you questioning his finishing). Lehmann got lucky his head was in the way.
