O'Shea is your classic jack of all trades master of none. Against the likes of Fulham and Bolton he's ok. He can grind things out in the midfield and win the ball. But against top class sides he's outmatched.

Fletcher is a bit of a tweener, he's a good passer but not fast enough to play wide. And he's too much of a lightweight to play CM in a 4-4-2. He plays well in a 4-3-3 where he does all the donkey work and lets the better players distribute.

Regarding Ronaldo I was pretty harsh on him, the giveaway in the middle of the park was inexcusable but he did have United's best chance. I'm not sure what else he could have done on that volley(you questioning his finishing). Lehmann got lucky his head was in the way.

You're right, O'shea and Fletcher do suck.

I like Fletcher. I think he's not where he needs to be just yet, but is maturing already. I expect more from him this season. I don't really like him out wide though. He's more suited for that CM position.

Ronaldo had a decent game. He can finish just fine, he just needs to learn to pass more and dribble less though. And it's always nice seeing Ole Gunnar play (for old time sentimental reasons).

Except the role he plays/should play is as a passer, distributer, linking defense to offense and United have Scholes and Carrick who can do that. Even Giggs had a nice run at CM last year.

Fletcher isn't good enough to supplant those 2 and probably never will. Most United fans are high on David Jones(great player for the reserves and played well in the Dutch league last year). I think he'll be better than Fletcher, Fletcher will really never be more than a squad player. He's useful, but not a guy you want playing against elite teams.
