Ok I should clarify, they have depth at the midfield position... Strikers & Defense, not so much.

Well not quite to be honest. It is imperative Scholes and Carrick stay healthy. Otherwise John O'Shea is forced into the starting lineup or Giggs shifts into CM.

United are stretched pretty thin in all areas.

Carrick is fine. Just speculating that one injury to either him or Scholes and United have to field John O'Shea :( or Ryan Giggs in central midfield.

Probably one of the main reasons Fergie wants Hargreaves so much!

Smith has the potiential to be a great player. I thought his treatment by SAF last season was appalling. Can you believe that SAF actually thought he could develope him as a replacement for Keano. Just Crazy.

Personally I think the best think for Alan Smith would be to look for another club and show SAF he was totally wrong . Just compare the performances he used to put in for Leeds scum and the England U21's with what we see now.

    Poor lad.

I think Smith's days in midfield are over. He did an admirable job there last year but his quality just wasn't enough. In rough and tumble games he was actually quite good when he could run around, make challenges, and the pace was fast. But when teams sat back and packed it in against United, Smith couldn't do anything. He said this himself.

The best for United is if he gets back to his form as a striker and becomes the new Mark Hughes like he was touted when he first got to Old Trafford.

There are plenty of games left, buddy, but losing to the awfulest of awful teams is not a sign of good things to come.

Smith was always a fun player to watch... I can't imagine how much fun lip reading would be with both Rooney and Smith playing striker...
