Well obviously this year was a complete disaster. But to say Newcastle have "had it coming for years" or in other words been on the road to relegation is like I mentioned a bit of a stretch. Last year Newcastle finished 12th with a winning record. Their goal differential was poor but it wasn't abnormally high compared to the teams around them in the table. The year before that they finished 13th with a winning record with a -9 goal differential. Nothing horrific. Basically Newcastle had become a mid-table club, disappointing for a team that had been among the top 5 earlier in this decade but nowhere near being a favorite for relegation. Obviously the writing was on the wall for relegation midway through this year but before that the path was not leading to relegation but rather mediocrity. Unfortunately for NUFC everything that could go wrong did.Quote:

The club has been in trouble financially one way or another since Sir Bobby's days. It's just now that the chickens are finally coming home to roost, so to speak.
Kills me to say it, being a NUFC supporter, but it's no surprise to any of us and frankly, if it wouldn't have happened this year, it would've next for sure.
Shearer said after the match yesterday that it's everyone's fault- Ashley, his, Keegan, the players- everyone. That's 100% accurate.
Sky is saying today that Ashley's only real option is to do whatever it takes to keep Al around- i.e. not only let him manage, but also let him make personnel decisions via transfer. Who knows if Al actually has the experience to do that job, but at this point, how much worse can it really get? Everyone thinks we'll do a Leeds anyway.
The only silver lining that could come of this is a lot of the "heart the size of a pea" guys will leave. Honestly, out of the current squad, Stephen Taylor and Andy Carroll are the only ones off the top of my head I think might still be in stripes come August. Who knows though- maybe not even them.
Be interesting to see if Nile Ranger comes up from reserves now...

Everyone is going to be talking about Liverpool come this time next season.
In the short term, we won't need a new stadium to compete for the title. In the long run, if Liverpool isn't bought out by an owner or a consortium with the financial means to compete, then it could very well end up like today's Arsenal.Quote:
