Thread: The Official 2008-2009 Soccer Thread

So are you guys ready for tomorrow?

Unfortunately for neutrals I don't anticipate Man United played a free flowing game. I think he'll play the same way he did against Barca last year, a 4-3-3 with Rooney and Park as wingers. I suspect Ronaldo will play though the middle. Carrick is a lock to start as one of the three central midfielders. My guess that Anderson will be along side him and one of Giggs/Scholes. Giggs is in better form but I think he is better as a sub than Scholes would be. So Ferguson puts his faith in the Ginger Prince with Giggs, Tevez, and Berbatov poised to come on if United go down. Back four will be the same as it was in all the crucial games lately. All the reports say Rio is fit and ready to go (Thank God).

I think Barca will play as Mr. I predicted, perhaps Puyol plays along side Pique and Toure returns to his holding midfield role though? Sounds like Henry and Inesita are fit, perhaps not 100% though.

Anyways, it should be a great final with both teams looking to put a stamp on the historical seasons they have had this far.

I'll say 2-0 United.

Teams are in. Man Utd: Van der Sar, O'Shea, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Anderson, Carrick, Giggs, Park, Ronaldo and Rooney.

Barcelona: Valdes, Toure, Puyol, Pique, Sylvinho, Xavi, Busquets, Iniesta, Messi, Henry and Eto'o.

Sigh, I think Man U wins this 3-1. Barca just isn't at full strength with Henry and Iniesta coming off injury and there's no Alves and Abidal.

My hats go off to Man U though. SAF is a genius and hopefully Guardiola can learn to have a squad with more depth and versatility in the future like this Man U squad.

I still say Man U scores 3 in the second half, one from a PK. Although it was nice to see Barca play their style of game in the last 20 minutes of the first half.

Way too much time being given to Xavi and Inesita in midfield. Shades of the Liverpool game. Never thought I'd say that Man United miss Darren Fletcher.

United picked the worst time to play their worst game of the Champions' League campaign.

At least I got the score right. Great game by Barca. They did what United did to Arsenal in the last game. Scored the early goal against the run of play and dominated the rest of the game.


Time for all the summer moves and speculation. Diego moving to Juventus for 24.5 million euros and Mario Gomez to Bayern for a Bundesliga record of around 30 million.
