As an aside anyone interested in South American football and its players, I find Tim Vickerys commentary are excellent. It's a weekly blog and he lives in South America. If you read the Q & A below the blog you will see he really knows his stuff.

I know there's not too many of you Arsenal fans on here, but this deserves a repeat viewing. It's Arshavin's second goal against Atletico Madrid in the Emirates Cup.

Not sure how many of Mexico's players are playing in club matches but im pretty sure Bradley, Bocanegra, Feilhaber, Davies, Cherundolo, and Demerit are all playing games in Europe this weekend. Traveling from Europe to Miami to Mexico City is going to be grueling...I hope they all have enough in the tank to pull off the major upset
Charity shield today, United looked a bit anaemic. I know its early season but Foster looked poor in goal as he has done most pre-season. They have now lost Vidic and Nani as well as Van der Sar. Valencia sure did not look like Ronaldo out there.
BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | M | Man Utd | Man Utd suffer Nani injury blow
I don't want to compare Valencia to Ronaldo, but seriously barring Evra as usual bombing up the flanks and Nani looking usefull but no more I would worry about where your service from midfield is going to come from.
Berbatov looked lost today, he really needs to pick it up too.
I don't really get the analogy regarding Ronaldo and service from midfield. Ronaldo provided VERY little service from midfield. The last season, Ronaldo didn't even play in midfield, more often than not he was playing up front as basically a CF or he had a free role behind a striker.
The biggest concern with Ronaldo is replacing the boatload of goals he scored, not service from midfield. Valencia is more than capable of putting balls into the box, he's a different player than Ronaldo. People seem to think Valencia was bought to replace Ronaldo, he really wasn't, Ronaldo was anything but an out and out winger his last two years at United.
With Nani out, Ferguson can revert to Rooney playing on a wing with Owen and Berbatov up front. I know he wants to play Rooney in Ronaldo's role but he can always play out wide if need be.
Ronaldo linked the midfield with the forwards through his dribbling, taking on and beating opposition players and his late runs in to the box which made him difficult to mark. United have nobody that can fill that role.
Liverpool have Gerrard, Chelsea have Lampard, I can't see Rooney filling that role, yes when he first burst on the scene, and as for playing on the wing Rooney looked sxxt out there last season.
Ronaldo had 18 league goals last year, that is achieveable by Rooney or Berbatov if he finds his feet, ronaldo however had 20 assists last year I can't see anybody replacing that this year.
Ronaldo scored goals, yes, but his vision and ability to draw defenders off other players whilst crafting a superb pass or cross is what I can't see happening this year.
