No there are scenarios in which we can play Germany. Currently that is how it will go. If both teams draw. Still lots of soccer to be played.

None the less, my point is against ANY quality squad the U.S. must play better. **** agains ANY squad the U.S must play better, tie against Slovenia after being behind 2-0 and a narrow victory against Algeria in the 92nd minute.

Is that convincing at all?

No, but it's sure ****ing exciting! We need situations like these to get the American people to understand how exciting and wonderful the sport is... and perhaps, stop calling it soccer.

Just so that it's been said, pretty much the same thing happened in the Confederations Cup last summer:

Must win in the last group game to advance --> Beat Spain --> 2-0 halftime lead over Brazil in the Final.

As it stands U.S. vs Ghana in the 2nd round. You would have to fancy your chances against them.

So it's Ghana for USA and England for Germany...hard to say which is the tougher matchup...should be interesting.

This is probably the easiest possible route to the semis the U.S. will EVER encounter so hopefully they can take advantage. Not saying the U.S. team is better then Uruguay or even Ghana...but it is almost inconceivable to reach the semis without having to go through a traditional "power" in the round of 16 and quarters.

Keep the Edu-Bradley pairing in the midfield and start Gomez up top again. Ghana hasn't scored a non-pk goal in the tournament so hopefully the U.S. can get a goal or two and clamp things down...hopefully

We give midfielders way too much space, and a team with real quality will make us pay again and again. Slovenia did for 45 then we turned it around. England for some reason didn't exploit the space. I have watched Germany spread the wing in both games they play brilliantly, if we face them in the next round it is going to be ugly. U.S. still has not impressed. Their game has been poor. Debbie Downer? You realize how important each of these games have been for all countries involved? The players are on the world stage and do everything to win or get to the next stage. So you're not impressed??? When were the Americans painted to be the dominant team in soccer??? NEVER. This was an epic win by a team that worked their asses off and never gave up. Maybe you should temper your expectations a little and watch how hard it is for even the best teams in the world to qualify.

You are comparing us to Germany who lost to Serbia and only managed ONE goal against Ghana. How is that dominance??? Good god...
