You might be right, Deadmarsh28...but I have no history to the sport and know almost nothing about it.

As my first impression...all I have seen is bad calls after more bad calls. I mean, I only watched a select few games too. It's not a good way to bring new people onboard that is all. I do plan on following the LA Galaxy/Chivas for a while.

Maybe soccer can grow on me over time, because I did enjoy the Team USA games at least.

I agree the blown calls have been terrible, Uefa has trialed two extra officials either side of the pitch just next to the goal posts during the Uefa cup and apparently that went well. Fifa are implementing it at some point which is progress although t.v. technology would be so much better.

I dont think either result would have changed on the day, England were woefull and Argentina were toying with Mexico.

One challenge per half. A 3 minute look at the play. Add it to stoppage time. You MIGHT wind up with 6 additional minutes of extra time. Plus normal stoppage makes it 9 or so. Doesn't seem so crazy to me.

And sure, MAYBE the results in yesterdays games wouldn't have changed. But is anyone really going to tell me that England didn't have momentum on their side when they "tied" the game? Are you really going to tell me that the players attitude and the team tactics wouldn't be different in the second half with a tie game as opposed to being down due to an inexcusably bad call?

I'm sorry, a ball that deep in the net being a non goal? A player 2 meters offside being allowed to score? Insane.

To err is human, but to screw with the premier sporting event in the world, ruining the rarest of opportunities for these players to shine on the world stage is cruel.

Baseball is broken for an entirely different reason(s).

Well, at least FIFA is doing something about it. They will no longer allow replays in the stadiums. That should take care of all the problems.

Having never really watched soccer before, I have to say that some of these matches have been really entertaining. The finesse needed to play this game is amazing, and I LOVE how most can make the ball curve so much. The goalies have the reflexes of a cat.

I do not enjoy watching the flops that take place every game. I understand they are running at full speed and getting kicked in the shin hurts and causes your feet to get swept out from under you, but do they need to roll around on the field like someone has shot them? Some players act like they have been shot, then when the ref blows the whistle to call the penalty the player jumps up like nothing happened. I also dont like how every player expects and penalty for every little thing and throws his hands ups like "WTF" whenever a penalty isn't called. That, to me shouldn't be allowed. Also, why to do the defensive players stop when they think the offensive player is offside? I have been taught that you play till the whistle blows, no matter what.

The officiating (in my eyes) has been terrible, but since I don't play or watch the sport, I have nothing to compare it too. You would think that these refs are the best of best.

Sucks that the US lost to Ghana, they were very beatable. Clark and Findley never should have started, I thought Bradley would have learned from his mistakes earlier in the tournament. The lack of a scoring threat up top is a glaring hole, not sure if anybody is in the pipeline to help fill that hole for 2014.

The officiating has been horrible, even worse than typical world cup matches. An instant replay system could be implemented very easily with minimal delays to game time. Even if there was some delay, would it be any worse than what the sport already has? Flopping, late subs, standing in front of free kicks, faking a throw-in then handing the ball off to a team mate for the throw, faking injuries, etc. Of the 90 minutes they probably only play 75 as is.

All that being said I've been thoroughly entertained by the games as I am every World Cup. I can't say that I'll watch any more soccer than I do now (occasional EPL or MLS game, most US Int'l games) but it's been a great watch. Can't wait for the US in 2014 and hopefully the tournament here in 2018/2022!

The world cup being held in the southern hemisphere really ruins the "world cup babes" thing.

    Heh funny....

The England team visited an orphanage in Cape Town today. "It's heartbreaking to see their sad little faces with no hope," said Jamal, aged six.
I've just won two tickets to see the England team. Do you want to come with me? We'll catch the bus to Gatwick Airport on Thursday and watch them come home.
Fabio Capello was wheeling his shopping trolley across the supermarket car park when he noticed an old lady struggling with her bags of shopping. He stopped and asked, "Can you manage dear?" To which the old lady replied: "No way. You got yourself into this mess. Don't ask me to sort it out!"
What do you call an Englishman in the knockout stages of the World Cup? A referee.
Three hours of football and Robert Green is still England's top scorer.
Apparently that fan had no trouble slipping into the England dressing room Robert Green was guarding the door.
I can't believe we only managed a draw against a rubbish team we should easily have beaten. . . . I'm ashamed to call myself Algerian.
What does the Englishman do when England wins the World Cup? He switches off the PlayStation.
David Blaine is said to be gutted after his record for doing nothing in a box for 42 days has been broken by Wayne Rooney.
