Which is why we get so thoroughly handled every four years in the World Cup. We're actually playing "qualifiers" against freaking Barbados. I could head down to the dive bar at the end of my street right now and round up a dozen guys who could probably scratch out a 0-0 draw against Barbados.
We need to play many more friendlies against the Dutch, Germans, French, Brazilians, Argentinians, Portuguese, etc., or find a way to merge CONCACAF with South America.
To echo ASUCruz earlier, that Turkey-Czech game was the craziest game of the tourney thus far.
How much better? None of those teams are perenial powers either, Portugal has just put itself back on the map, and their Golden Generation didn't achieve anything.
The Czechs are on their way down and so are the Croatians. It seems like we're right around where we should be given that our best players are playing other sports.
You really went out on a limb there saying the US isn't "good"
But to examine this point, who out there is saying that the US is a top 10 side. You bring up the recent set of friendlies, I don't think any legitimate US soccer fan believes the US are on that level where they can compete with the elite countries(England didn't qualify but their talent pool is there with the elite).
Seems like the US is right where they should be. A solid team that can do some damage in a knockout tournament but doesn't really have a shot at winning it. You said "The US ain't good" well who is saying otherwise?
I'd agree with the Czechs comment but the Croatians ? They're still on the up, have won their group stuffed England in the qualifying group and look really decent team. They also have a great coach.
Oh and I examined my claim that France's team is too old and I appear to be wrongThey just feel old though..... I would agree that Riberry and Malouda are vastly overrated
