Who you got winning Euro 2008???
My dime is on Germany, but I'd love it if Spain won.
I think Germany has a really good side and in reality are hosting another tournament. I mean Austria is pretty much Germany right! They will have a ton of support and I think they have a nice mix of young guys and veterans.
Spain have to win something sometime right? I anxious to see how they play, a lot of the old guard is gone, Raul of course, Albeda, etc. They are a talented side as always, perhaps their form hasn't been good but its wild not see Joaquin or Vicente in the side. 4-5 years ago, these 2 were talked about as among the best in world as far as wingers go.
Will Spain play Torres and Villa up front together? I hope so!
How about group C? Italy, France, the Netherlands and Romania. Jesus!
My mother is German so I will be shouting for germany, but in reality I would like (naively i know) an attacking tournament. The world cup rocked right up to the knock out rounds, and then I actually sat and watched Ukraine and Switzerland play for a penalty shoot out from the first whistle in the 2nd round.
With regards to that, Bryan Glanville a very respected writer for world soccer magazine has suggested using corners as a tie breaker for teams tied at the end of extra time.(ie whoever has the most corners wins) His thoughts are that teams would avoid settling for draws, and would make football more attacking because teams would try to actually prevent conceding corners. Plus you would have teams shooting more and attacking more to try and get the ball in the opponents 6 yard box.
Anyway I hope for a great tournament, can Spain shake the major tournament hoodoo, who knows.
Innovative but that would be a weird way to decide a winner. I mean towards the end of the game, would teams start getting the ball deep and then knocking the ball of defender's legs for corners instead of going for goal?
I don't think there is a perfect solution. I think when good sides play other good sides, no team wants to go to penalties. It really is a lottery. I don't think anybody wants to see games end in penalties, but I sort of love the drama of the whole thing(except yesterday I scared ****less!)
Exactly, its great when it is not your team. I enjoyed last nights shoot out but I could imagine if it was my team.
Juventus told they must pay £16million for Liverpool midfielder Alonso | Mail Online
This seems to be one of the hot rumors right now. I don't think Alonso had a great season, pretty subpar I thought. 16 mil would be a good price for him, rumors are that they will only sell him if they get Garreth Barry from Villa. It's wild to think that about Barry. Not too long ago he just a left sided player who got up and down the flank. Now he is a pretty solid CM.
Right, my English friend who supports Arsenal said the same exact thing to me when we were watching the game.
Been meaning to ask Ivan, where are you from and who do you support. I think I know who all the regular soccer posters support except yourself. Great name btw, Red October one of my favorite movies!
Chelsea struck first blood so to speak in the transfer market, signing Jose Bosingwa a RB from Porto. I know United were keen on this guy as well, Chelsea has been looking for an attacking RB opposite Cole for awhile now. Essien has been playing there and is very capable but he belongs in midfield.
