Chris Paul.
EDIT : or Derek Fisher
I have to agree with you....I think one of the biggest missing pieces was not have Fish in the lineup. But Pau is a great addition!
But if Kobe doesn't piss and moan that he'll leave, do the Lakers go get Gasol?
The Lakers basically have the Pacific wrapped up. And they have 52 wins with a game left. Quite the turn around from last year. I'm not saying he did it his way. In fact, the reason why he deserves the MVP is because for once (after the pissing and moaning scene) his game did become more selfless. His shot attempts are down and his assists are up. He's become more vocal as a motivator and cheering section for the youngins and meanwhile has kept his game at that elevated level while the players around him have also elevated their own.
Like him or hate him, there's a tough case NOT to vote for the guy.
-Played majority of the year with a torn tendon on finger
-Andrew Bynum missed majority of the season
-Trevor Ariza missed majority of the season
-Pau Gasol missed about 2 weeks
-Has played every single game of this season
-Lakers were in first place when Bynum went down
-Lakers are currently in first place
-The best two way player
-and 4 of the last 5 years, has led the team in assists
So for those that want to vote on the basis of whoever has the best record in the west, then Kobe should win (Jamele Hill). and for those that want to vote that Lebron is the MVP because he has the best individual stat this season, then blatantly didn't follow that formula the last two years. And those that want to vote (Charles Barkley) the best player on the best team should vote for Boston. You're going to have ass faces like Chad ford and John Hollinger vote Kobe 3rd and 4th but it's nice to know that majority of the sportswriters have already spoken.
Kobe
Paul
Garnett
Lebron
Howard
Yes, the Lakers would still get Gasol. That trade was a no-brainer. Kobe wanted to get a 75 year-old Kidd which I was hoping wouldn't happen. Either the Gasol trade fell into Kupchak's lap or Kup pulled a Jedi mind trick to get that trade done. It had nothin to do with Kobe though and I'm glad they didn't give into his demands of getting rid of Bynum.
Kobe would suck as a GM
but a great motivator nonetheless
Kobe has been screwed in MVP balloting before. Don't be surprised if the media gives him the shaft again.
Kobe has deserved it for years now.
CP is still young, much younger than Kobe. The race is so "tight", but who gives a crap. Kobe has earned it. If Chris Paul is so good, give it to him next year. Because if Kobe gets shafted this year again, I doubt he'll ever win it in the future.
In the end, MVP awards don't mean squat. It's about the Championship Rings. I don't know if Kobe feels the same way or not... but I rather have Kobe earn 5 more championship rings if it means Chris Paul winning 10 MVPs in a row.
YES, he deserved it last year and deserves it even more this year but his off court baby crap has everyone hating his tht is why he doesn't get all the votes.
