Whoever gave him a no trade clause needs to be fired ASAP though!
I think the no trade clause is a special stipulation of a 1-year Bird contract, which is an exception that allows teams to re-sign their own players even if they're over the salary cap.
huh - this article says Devean wanted to be traded not that long ago
Rest Easy, Mavs Fans: Devean George Is Not Getting Traded - FanHouse - AOL Sports Blog
Things really turning ugly with this whole situation. After George blocked the trade, the NBA ruled that Stackhouse cannot re-sign with Dallas if he's waived, so Dallas supposedly is no longer offering Stackhouse and is trying to include Van Horn and Hassell in the trade, but the Nets don't want Hassell's contract.
It's gonna take a lot of work for the two sides to work something out. What if they don't? Obviously Jason Kidd's going to be ****ing pissed that he came so close to being traded to a contender but is stuck in Jersey. How are guys like Devin Harris and Diop going to respond, after seeing that their team was so willing to ship them out?
Should be interesting to see how this situation plays out.
Kidd trade now official
ESPN - Kidd trade from Nets to Mavericks now official - NBA
To Dallas: Kidd and Malik Allen
To Jersey: Devin Harris, DeSagana Diop, Trenton Hassell, Maurice Ager, Keith Van Horn, first-round picks in 2009 and 2010, and $3 million in cash
It's NBA Championship or bust for the Mavs
I love these chain reaction trades. Kidd, what is he like 42? Shaq, overweight, injury prone and what, 35? I love the fact Gasol is in a Laker uniform in his prime.
Meanwhile, Kobe, Gasol and Bynum will be playing together for the next 5 years.
Same with the Mavs, Harris is a good young player but when he hits his prime in 5 years or so, Dirk will be 35. They also have to win now, plus there's no way they could enter this year's playoffs with the same roster that got upset by the Warriors.
Both teams are "All In" as they should be.
I say there's no way in hell Dallas will be any better with Kidd than without. I'm not lookin for conflict but we ARE talking about the Mavericks (choke city).
Personally, I'd never make this trade at this point in Kidd's career; he's way too old. Does he have enough to catapult Dallas to the championships? Not a chance.
So let's see what we've got here - Dallas won't do any better in the playoffs, AND, they're S.O.L. without two 1st round picks.
And while ASU makes a good argument for justifying Dallas and Phoenix's trades....c'mon, ASU.....you know as well as me that neither move will make a true difference this season.
Couldn't the Mavericks just have held on to Nash when they had the chance?
