I'm not sure why people think adding O'Neal while getting rid of Odom and Bynum would help things. Yes, you'd get a low post guy, but he's not going to make up that much of a difference from the guys you lose. The Lakers need a tough guy who plays nasty down low. Get Odom out of the 4/5 and get me a 10/10/2 guy who plays hard. Adding O'Neal just replaces Odom's scoring, gives you a little more defense, and makes Kobe have to handle the ball all the time. Just my opinion.
Yeah get it done Mitch, so the Lakers can lose in the first round to the #3 seed instead of the #1 or #2.
Anything to make Kobe leave will make me happy

Ideally the Lakers would want to add O'Neal to a core of Kobe and Odom. Odom would then be able to finally play the 3 instead of moving back and forth and the Lakers get the low post threat they need.Quote:

I just don't see a deal happening without including Odom.

Really does nothing for Indiana, even in the East. Bird might be inclined to take that hodgepodge of "talent" aka the deal without Odom just to start over again and to not have another big contract on his books(Odom).

Then you have Walton, Farmar, Turiaf, and Evans as your main bench guys. It's not a championship team but I'd go to war with it. I wouldn't want to underestimate Kobe in that situation either.
