    Default Lakers offseason thread

So apparently the Garnett talks are actually heating up after years of rumors? Interesting.

That would be HUGE. Adding Garnett and keeping Bryant earns this team a first round playoff victory regardless of the other 3 names listed in the starting lineup.

If Kupchak pulls this off I might take back nearly all the bad things I've said about him.

From the looks of it, Dr. Buss went over Kupchak's head to get the ball rolling here.

Either way, it's a nice thought.

5 min. ago update from latimes.com

The Times first reported the talks as a multi-player negotiation involving the Lakers, Minnesota, Indiana and possibly a fourth team (probably Boston and the #5 overall). Sources now say the Lakers are dealing directly with Minnesota and disagree about the involvement of the Pacers and a fourth team.

The Lakers are reportedly offering the Timberwolves Andrew Bynum, Lamar Odom and Kwame Brown for Garnett.

Even better. Less chance of a team getting "cold feet."

I don't know if I agree. I don't think that deal is as appealing to Minnesota without the youth and top picks.

Add our 1st Rounder and call it a day.

Not quite that simple I think. #19 isn't nearly the same as #5.

    Fine! Give them Smush Parker.

Realistically what chance is there that this deal gets beyond the first counter-offer?

I think Kobe will be on the team next year but I don't see the lineup being drastically different. I think Bynum gets moved but I can't see a scenario where a team is willing to ship a superstar to LA for anything less than a return of Kobe.

Adding KG won't guarantee that we make it past the first round. Basically our team will be Kobe, KG, and a bunch of stiffs and hacks. We would still have a lot of work to do before we became legit contenders.
