ODOM in the mix!
Excellent article on the Kobe trade situation by Chad Ford:

Point #1 is something I've thought about for many years and the reason I said they should have traded him a couple years back.
Ford's a very solid writer, but he lost me when he said "For starters, the Lakers haven't won a playoff series since Shaq was traded to Miami. Many, starting with Bryant himself, blame the 'supporting cast.' But, in fact, Kobe's teammates are better than generally believed, and he has a Hall of Fame coach in Phil Jackson."
You think this:
Jason Richardson
Matt Barnes
Andris Biedrins
Stephen Jackson
Baron Davis
Monta Ellis
Al Harrington
Mickael Pietrus
Kelenna Azubuike
Adonal Foyle
Josh Powell
Sarunas Jasikevicius
is a LOT better than this:
Kobe Bryant
Smush Parker
Lamar Odom
Kwame Brown
Luke Walton
Sasha Vujacic
Jordan Farmar
Maurice Evans
Andrew Bynum
Shammond Williams
Ronny Turiaf
Brian Cook
?
Granted, two UCLA alums vs. one can make a big difference. . .but I don't see a HUGE disparity in the roster there.
Yes, I do think the Warriors were, by the playoffs, a better team--they completely revamped their roster midseason and had a much better record than the Lakers after that. They also matched up much better against Dallas than the Lakers do against Phoenix. Dallas and Golden State both play the up-tempo, not much post game style and Golden State just got ridiculously hot in that series.
I still have no idea how the Lakers took Phoenix to seven games two years ago.
