NEW YORK -- It didn't take long for New York Knicks guard Stephon Marbury to go from defending Michael Vick to distancing himself from the soon-to-be-imprisoned Atlanta Falcons quarterback.
After being criticized for his remarks Monday for calling dogfighting a sport and comparing it to hunting, Marbury told the New York Post for Thursday's editions that he despises dogfighting and that Vick "is 100 percent wrong."
"I don't like it at all," Marbury said of dogfighting. "I don't think [Vick's] right. But this dude is trying to ask for forgiveness. ... The way the way it's going about in the newspapers and TV, it's ridiculous."
Marbury also said he never called dogfighting a sport.
"I said, 'From what I hear, dogfighting was a sport.' They're editing me on TV," he said.
lol. there is no such thing as damage control for guys like Marbury.
Marbury is a good guy. He not only created basketball shoes that he sells for $15, he donates them to all the high school basketball teams in NYC that need them. He's involved with countless charities around NY and puts his money and fame to the best possible use. He went to New Orleans to help people when Katrina hit, all in all he's a good hearted person.
Having said all that, he needs to sometimes just say nothing, for his own good.
1. You don't know crap about Marbury as a person...at best, you are a fan. You have no basis for the "good guy' assertion that you throw around like gospel. Remember, at one time most people thought OJ was a "good guy" too.
2. Image building PR & tax write-offs don't make a "good guy".
3. His comments are far more revealing about what kind of "guy" he is than any crap his handlers release to the media.
I live here and see him in the news all the time, doing the stuff I mentioned. It's small, local news, unlike when the latest Cincinnati Bengal gets hauled off to jail, but we do see it. I also follow the Knicks day-to-day and see him handle himself through the ups and downs for the past four years now--mostly downs, by the way. He says some stupid things that make him look bad, like when he proclaimed himself the best point guard in the NBA, but he's never been a bad guy.
OJ had previously abandoned his wife and children and had repeated 911 calls to his house for beating up his wife. Don't compare Marbury to OJ. Maybe you need to sometimes also say nothing---for your own benefit.
Heh...news. How cute. Like I said, don't throw around info like you have any.
As far as OJ is concerned, I am not comparing the two...I am comparing their handlers. Brilliant handlers...nobody knew any of that about OJ before the incident. Everyone though he was a "good guy". Get it now?
What the hell is your problem? Where did I say I hang out with Marbury or have any inside info? I'm giving you my opinion of the guy based on what I see from living here and following the Knicks. Sorry the news isn't your style, I like to kind of pay attention to things. Silly me.
Maybe you're not familiar with New York sports, but in 2007 if a guy sends his steak back we find out about it. Marbury isn't a guy who gets in trouble with the law, doesn't shoot his limo drivers, doesn't rape hotel staff, he puts what he has to good use in the city where he's from. I don't need to hang around with him to know that much.As far as OJ is concerned, I am not comparing the two...I am comparing their handlers. Brilliant handlers...nobody knew any of that about OJ before the incident. Everyone though he was a "good guy". Get it now?
