If we got Jrue, that class would be sick and deserve some terrible nickname like the "Fantastic Four" or something.

    As it stands...

Jrue Holiday is widely considered a top-5 recruit.
Drew Gordon and Malcolm Lee are top-20 recruits.
Jerime Anderson has been moving up the rankings and could join the others as a "5-star" prospect before the end of his high school career.

    I wonder if they'd take a FIFTH for 2008...

    A fifth? Let's get a fourth first.

If you add five in 2008 you are assuming three of Shipp, Collison, Mbah a Moute, and Love are leaving after 2007 barring unforeseen circumstances with another player. (So far the only certainties are Mata graduating after '07-08 and Wright's transfer.) That's a bit much. Am I forgetting someone?

They have an open scholarship right now from Afflalo's defection. That will likely be carried over. (1)

    Mata leaves. (2)

The Bruins staff seems to be safely assuming Collison is going pro after the season (3) and Shipp has already shown an inclination to leave despite his poor odds of being drafted. (4?)

Dragovic isn't likely to stick around unless he sees big minutes, which isn't likely to happen unless he sees quantum leaps in his overall game. (5?)

    Love might be one-and-done. (6?)

Mbah-a-Moute might stay healthy and exceed his freshman year performance to make himself draftable. He, also, seemed curious about making the jump this year. (7?)

There's also an internet rumor that Roll's family has the means to let him go a year without his scholarship if need be. (Seems unlikely to me.)

I'd assume it will be four at this point, but five is very possible. It doesn't look that clear on paper, but the Bruins are reportedly continuing to look for one more post player WHILE holding an open offer to Jrue Holiday. So they're recruiting as if they'll have five scholarships.

If Jrue goes elsewhere, they might not go with five. With a 2008 class of four, that would make it likely that they take five in 2009 given the large graduating class and the probable departures.

I missed one (Afflalo leaving--duh) and you left out Wright.

So we have three sure thing scholarships (Afflalo, Wright, Mata) open come 2008. I also assume Collison is gone, so that's four. Love, Shipp, and Mbah a Moute are definitely maybes. I also think Dragovic will get more PT with Shipp playing considerable minutes at the 2. The Roll scenario seems completely unlikely and not to mention Tim Floyd-esque.

    Class of
2009: Collison, Mbah a Moute, Shipp, Aboya, Roll
    2010: Westbrook, Keefe, Dragovic
    2011: Love, Stanback
    2012: Lee, Gordon, Anderson

    Oops!

Truth be told, I never made him part of any Bruins lists. Mr. Inconsequential.

    As for Dragovic...

I don't know that I'd expect Shipp to play heavy minutes at the 2. It might be premature to expect him to play heavy minutes at all. Moreover, Howland has said he'd play some at the 2, but he's not clearly going to get the majority (or even plurality) of the minutes with Roll and Westbrook in the mix. If Shipp still sees a lot of minutes at the 3, Dragovic doesn't. Stanback may be further along that Dragovic (given how raw Dragovic was to start with) despite being only a true freshman. Howland also mentioned Luc possibly seeing time at the 3. I really think Dragovic is going to be the odd man out unless he makes huge strides and soon.

So I see it as Afflalo (1), Mata (2), Wright (3), Collison (nearly certain 4), Dragovic (very likely 5), Shipp (possible 6), Love (possible 7), and Luc (possible 8).

With that many possible defections, and so many probable ones, it makes sense that they're planning to take up to 5 with a current focus on another post player (given that Mata and Wright are certain departures, and Love and Luc are possible ones) and a special spot left for the uber-elite Jrue Holiday.

    Very good points.

However, since there is speculation on Shipp and/or Mbah a Moute leaving... wouldn't that mean more playing time for Dragovic two seasons from now as opposed to having to sit out a year by transferring? Sure, he won't like it this year, but it would likely pay off come '08-09.

I'm not that optimistic about Holiday though. Adding a Thompkins or Breshers would be nice either way.

It really depends on his development. If he's still as raw as he is, with UCLA recruiting over him I don't think Howland will try to keep him with promises of playing time. Stanback could easily surpass him, and in 2008 you have Malcolm Lee who could play the 3.

But if he develops well and soon, Howland would certainly try to sell him on playing time next year.

Hopefully the addition of Drew Gordon to an already nice crop will suck in more elite recruits.

LA Times reports that Jrue Holiday has limited his schools down to UCLA and Washington (where is brother is going next year), thus eliminating UNC.

Also, in Scout's updated rankings, Lee is #13, Gordon is #23, and Anderson is #26.

    Holiday is #3...

Gabe Pruitt hired an agent... that leaves USC much weaker next year, considering they were pretty much a solid #2 in conference in the pre-rankings.

Arron Afflalo goes 27th overall to Detroit, much higher than most projections. Good to see him get that guaranteed $.
